Carolina Panthers adding another skill player in WR DJ Chark

The Carolina Panthers are loading up their offense around what presumably will be a rookie quarterback.

Wide receiver DJ Chark is signing a one-year deal with the Panthers, the team announced.

Chark was considered one of the top wide receivers on the open market entering free agency. The 6-4, 205 pound downfield threat produced 30 catches, 502 yards and three touchdowns for the Detroit Lions last season.

The 26-year-old spent the first four seasons of his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He has registered 177 receptions, 2,544 yards and 18 touchdowns in 54 career games.

Chark's addition is part of offensive makeover in Carolina. Running back Miles Sanders, wide receiver Adam Thielen and tight end Hayden Hurst are some of the notable free agents the Panthers have signed this offseason.

The Panthers own the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft. They are expected to draft a quarterback with their top choice. Alabama's Bryce Young and Ohio State's C.J. Stroud are widely considered the top candidates to be selected No. 1 overall.
