The St. Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia Phillies, two of baseball's most storied franchises, meet in this weekend's best-of-three wild card series to open the 2022 MLB playoffs.

The winner of the Phillies-Cardinals series will meet the Atlanta Braves in the National League Division Series.

St. Louis (93-69) won the NL Central by going 43-25 after the All-Star break, pulling away from the Milwaukee Brewers. Cardinals first baseman Paul Golsdschmidt (.317 BA, 35 HR 115 RBI) and third baseman Nolan Arenado (30 HR, 103 RBI) could finish 1-2 in MVP voting this year. Albert Pujols turned back the clock, ultimately becoming the fourth player in MLB history to hit 700 home runs.

The Phillies (87-75) are in the postseason for the first time since 2011, snapping the NL's longest-active drought, with interim manager Rob Thompson at the helm after Joe Girardi was fired earlier in the season.

Who are the Phillies, Cardinals' starting pitchers for Game 1?

Right-hander Zack Wheeler (12-7, 2.82 ERA) takes the mound for the Phillies, making his first career postseason appearance. The Cy Young runner-up last year, Wheeler missed most of September with a forearm injury but returned and gave up just one earned run in 15 innings across three starts to end the regular season.

Acquired for rotation depth at the trade deadline, lefty Jose Quintana (6-7, 2.93 ERA) starts the opener for the Cardinals. Quintana posted a 2.01 ERA in 12 starts for St. Louis after coming over in a trade with the Pirates.
