Car flies into Chick-fil-A drive-thru, flips truck after running stop sign, SC cops say

A car ran a stop sign and went airborne, launching toward a fast-food drive-thru line in South Carolina, officials said.

The car hit a pickup truck, flipping it before the two vehicles came to rest in the Chick-fil-A patio area, Capt. Mike Brandt, a spokesperson for the Florence Police Department, told McClatchy News in a phone interview.

Photos shared with WPDE show the car landed upright on top of the truck, which had its wheels in the air.

The driver of the car was charged with disregarding a stop sign after the crash, which was reported at about 10 a.m. on Monday, March 20.

Brandt told McClatchy News the truck was waiting in the drive-thru at a Chick-fil-A restaurant. At the same time, the driver of the car is accused of blowing through a stop sign at the nearby intersection of Dunbarton Drive and West Radio Drive.

Police said the car then traveled across lanes of traffic and ran into an embankment, causing it to fly into the waiting truck. The crash sent the driver of the car to a hospital with non-life-threatening injures and left the truck driver with minor injuries, according to officials.

Florence is roughly 65 miles northwest of Myrtle Beach.
