Cameroon 3-3 Serbia LIVE! Thrilling six-goal draw – World Cup 2022 result, match stream and latest updates

Cameroon vs Serbia – LIVE!

Both Cameroon and Serbia are still alive in the World Cup after playing out a classic 3-3 draw in their Group G clash today (Monday), in the final 10am GMT kick off of the tournament.

Of the two nations, Serbia may feel the more disappointed, having led 3-1 thanks to Strahinja Pavlovic, Sergei Milinkovic-Savic and Aleksander Mitrovic goals. They looked in cruise control, after battled back from 1-0 down when Jean-Charles Castelletto opened the scoring for the Indomitable Lions.

They lived up to their nickname after going two goals down, though, with substitute Vincent Aboubakar inspiring a thrilling comeback, first lobbing the goalkeeper to reduce their arrears and then setting up Eric Choupo-Moting to level at 3-3. From there, it looked inevitable that one side would find a winning goal, but it ended level, leaving both teams still with a slim chance of making the last 16. See how the game unfolded on Standard Sport’s live blog below.

Cameroon vs Serbia highlights

  • GOAL! It’s 3-3

  • GOAL! Aboubakar pulls it back to 3-2

  • GOAL! Mitrovic rounds off super move

More of that for the rest of the World Cup group stage please, teams.

FULL TIME

12:01 , Dominic Booth

A late Cameroon corner is simply caught by goalkeeper Milkinkovic-Savic. Is there another late twist in this game?

Grujic sends a shot goalwards at the other end, but it’s another easy piece of keeping. And that’s that. A crazily and brilliant match ends 3-3, a point apiece and these two teams live to fight another day.

11:57 , Dominic Booth

93 mins: This is chaotic. Fouls all over the place, players throwing themselves forward and into challenges. Rigobert Song wants his team to go for the win.

11:56 , Dominic Booth

91 mins: Mitrovic gets through and tries to dink it precisely over Epassy, but the keeper gets enough on it. Was the flag up for offside?

It would have been mightily close.

Added time

11:55 , Dominic Booth

90 mins: We’ve got six minutes of added time. This game deserved more.

11:53 , Dominic Booth

88 mins: It’s very hard to describe what’s going on, because so much is going on... Mitrovic with a lovely spin and shot and narrowly misses the target. He puts his hands to his face.

11:50 , Dominic Booth

86 mins: Bassogog has been impressive down the Cameron right since replaced Ekambi as a substitute. Serbia seem to have lost their bite going forward... they keep getting the final ball wrong.

11:48 , Dominic Booth

84 mins: Kostic with a teasing ball across the Cameroon six-yard line. Nobody there, not even Mitrovic.

 (Getty Images)
(Getty Images)

11:47 , Dominic Booth

82 mins: Cameroon look just as likely to find the winner as Serbia do. It’s impossible to predict what will happen in this last 10 minutes or so.

11:45 , Dominic Booth

81 mins: As good as this game has been, a draw isn’t much good to either side – which probably explains why it’s been so open and entertaining.

Cameroon take Anguissa off, which is a surprise. Ex Spurs man George-Kevin Nkoudou is coming to play on the wing. Mbeumo is also being replaced.

11:43 , Dominic Booth

79 mins: There’s a triple sub from Serbia in the offing. Luka Jovic is going to come on, along with Radonjic and ex Liverpool player Marko Grujic.

Veljkovic, Zivkovic going off.

Milinkovic-Savic’s long-ranger fly over the crossbar was his last act before being replaced.

11:41 , Dominic Booth

77 mins: Epassy saves from Mitrovic! He was clean through there, he should have scored. Big miss.

These are the two Cameroon goals to pull it back from 3-1, by the way.

11:39 , Dominic Booth

74 mins: Cameroon are playing some attractive football. Anguissa is linking the play nicely.

The cross is blocked with Serbia being tested defensively now.

11:36 , Dominic Booth

72 mins: If Cameroon had their first choice keeper Onana, surely they’d be ahead here.

But if Serbia had Pavlovic still on the pitch at the back, maybe they’d have conceded one or two goals fewer.

Who wants to win it?

11:34 , Dominic Booth

69 mins: This game is defying belief. Serbia had control, they were cruising and could have won by four or five.

But the introduction of Vincent Aboubakar has shifted the momentum back towards Cameroon. There’s sitll 20 minutes plus added time left. How many goals are we going to get?

 (Getty Images)
(Getty Images)

GOAL!

11:31 , Dominic Booth

Can you believe this? It’s 3-3! Choupo-Moting gets onto Aboubakar’s cross. This is ridiculous.

GOAL! Cameroon 2-3 Serbia | Aboubakar ‘64

11:29 , Dominic Booth

The goal stands! He was onside. What a finish.

11:28 , Dominic Booth

63 mins: This isn’t quite over, yet. Serbia are leaving too much room at the back for a team leading by goals and Cameroon are keen to exploit the break.

Aboubakar thinks he’s scored with an audacious lob over Milinkovic-Savic. The flag is up, but should it have been? VAR are looking...

Mitro’s moment

11:26 , Dominic Booth

61 mins: He’s been excellent today.

 (Getty Images)
(Getty Images)

11:25 , Dominic Booth

60 mins: There are some shouts for that Mitrovic strike to be a contender for goal of the tournament. As a team goal, it was spectacular.

They’re trying it again here, Serbia. Cameroon break through at the other end, however, and Aboubakar slaloms through. He’s just snuffed out.

11:23 , Dominic Booth

58 mins: Finally one of these 10am kick offs produces goals! It’s a shame we’ll have no more after this game.

Can Cameroon get a goal and a foothold back in this? Mbeumo tries to create something down the right but he’s lacking support at the moment.

 (Getty Images)
(Getty Images)

11:20 , Dominic Booth

55 mins: Cameroon need an answer to this Serbian dominance. That was one-touch football at its finest to cut through Rigobert Song’s side like a knife through butter.

Song’s answer, for now, is to bring on striker and captain Aboubakar to partner Choupo-Moting up front.

Serbia make a change themselves, with Pavlovic forced off through injury. Stefan Mitrovic is on in his stead.

GOAL! Cameroon 1-3 Serbia | Mitrovic ‘53

11:18 , Dominic Booth

Oh, brilliant football from Serbia and they almost walk it in! Mitrovic with the final touch!

11:16 , Dominic Booth

52 mins: Dusan Tadic is having himself a game. That’s a delightfully delicate touch to try and guide it onto Mitrovic. He’s some player, the Ajax forward.

11:15 , Dominic Booth

51 mins: It’s all too easy for Serbia right now. So much space in midfield, but they’re playing some nice stuff, rotating positions and picking up the ball in pockets.

 (Getty Images)
(Getty Images)

11:13 , Dominic Booth

50 mins: Great flowing football from Serbia, with Kostic latching onto a sensational reverse ball from Tadic. He’s just been flagged offside.

Cameroon are still looking shaky.

11:12 , Dominic Booth

48 mins: Anguissa is getting into the thick of things for Cameroon, Kostic doesn’t like a challenge that the Napoli player just made. Anguissa will be key if Cameroon are going to level this game up, though, you feel.

11:10 , Dominic Booth

46 mins: If it stays 1-1, a draw between Brazil and Switzerland later in the day would see Cameroon eliminated from the World Cup.

It should make for an entertaining second half.

SECOND HALF

11:09 , Dominic Booth

What does the second half have in store for us, then?

We’re back under way.

11:01 , Dominic Booth

Two minutes and thirty seconds between those two Serbia goals! Goalkeeper Epassy didn’t cover himself in glory for that second one, while the first all came from a superb Dusan Tadic cross.

First half thoughts

10:58 , Dominic Booth

Well...

Jean-Charles Castelletto’s first international goal – and Cameroon’s first since 2014 – had put the African side in charge, slightly against the run of play. But they looked like they might get another, before Serbia turned on the style in first half added time, skipper Strahinja Pavlović nodding home to level the scores, before Sergei Milinkovic-Savic’s strike – not completely cleanly hit – turned the game on its head.

Cameroon looked shellshocked by the end of the half, they were desperate for the whistle. Serbia would love to continue where they left off.

HALF TIME

10:53 , Dominic Booth

We needed that half time whistle to get our breath back and reflect on an unbelievable first half added time period for Serbia.

What on earth has happened to Cameroon? Mitrovic nearly got a third then before the whistle. Pavlovic and Milinkovic-Savic both punished some lacklustre defending from Song’s team and this game is now Serbia’s for the taking. Incredible stuff.

(Getty Images)

GOAL! Cameroon 1-2 Serbia | Milinkovic-Savic ‘49

10:49 , Dominic Booth

Oh wow! Two in first half added time, as Milinkovic-Savic drills home to turn the game around completely!

GOAL! Cameroon 1-1 Serbia | Pavlovic ‘45

10:46 , Dominic Booth

The big centre-back has nodded home to make it 1-1!

Added time

10:46 , Dominic Booth

45 mins: We’ll have six minutes of added time.

Serbia have a free-kick, and a platform for themselves to try and find a leveller.

10:44 , Dominic Booth

43 mins: Kunde picks the pocket of Lukic and has acres of space to gallop into. He also had options but opted to shoot, straight at Milinkovic-Savic. The rebound is all wrong, too.

 (Getty Images)
(Getty Images)

10:41 , Dominic Booth

41 mins: Cameron living by the seat of their pants here.

Serbia piling on the pressure as the half draws to a close (added time pending).

10:40 , Dominic Booth

39 mins: Slightly overplayed from Serbia there, Tadic guilty of squaring when he probably should have pulled the trigger from the right side of the box. Zivkovic continues to find space.

Mitrovic can’t get on this cross but it drops to Tadic, who gets the shot horribly wrong and over.

10:38 , Dominic Booth

38 mins: Serbia trying to enjoy a period of possession, but Cameroon are never far away from a counter-attack. Choupo-Moting is electric with his pace, leading the charge.

10:36 , Dominic Booth

36 mins: Fai is fine to continue but he doesn’t get his cross right there, overlapping down the flank.

Serbia need to regain control here.

10:34 , Dominic Booth

34 mins: Mbeumo has started to come into the game for Cameroon, and the African side are threatening a second.

An injury concern for full-back Fai Collins, hurdling a Serbian challenge.

 (Getty Images)
(Getty Images)

10:33 , Dominic Booth

32 mins: Castelletto briefly thought he might have been offside, but no need for VAR and the goal stands.

It’s very much against the run of play, with Serbia now looking for an immediate response. Cameroon have something to hold onto.

GOAL! Cameroon 1-0 Serbia | Castelletto ‘29

10:29 , Dominic Booth

29 mins: Another Cameroon corner and a goal! Castelletto at the back post!

10:27 , Dominic Booth

27 mins: The only thing disrupting the very high tempo of this game, is how much referee Mohammed Abdulla Hassan is blowing his whistle. In fairness to him, both sides are quite physical and aggressive...

Serbia butcher a really good attacking opportunity. Cameroon were wide open at the back after centre-back Castelletto went down.

10:25 , Dominic Booth

25 mins: A booking for Nkoulou for a hand in the face of Zivkovic. Suspicions that it might have been VAR-worthy, but probably not.

10:24 , Dominic Booth

24 mins: It’s a pretty coordinated press from Serbia that is putting Cameroon under pressure, but it’s also a gamble given how direct the African side like to play. Anguissa hasn’t got in the game much yet, and he’s harshly penalised for a foul on Milinkovic-Savic.

 (Getty Images)
(Getty Images)

10:22 , Dominic Booth

22 mins: This is pretty open. Both teams know they need to win, and that’s evident in their attacking impetus.

A brief delay while the referee sorts his clothing out.

10:20 , Dominic Booth

20 mins: A good run from Kunde down the Cameroon right, almost by will more than skill, but he stings the palms of goalkeeper Milinkovic-Savic, who concedes a corner.

The resulting set piece is worked to Kunde to shoot again but it’s scuffed and Serbia get away with a free-kick.

10:18 , Dominic Booth

17 mins: Another huge chance for Mitrovic! Questions about whether the ball went out of play or not, but the Fulham man would expect to score from that kind of postion, less than 10 yards out. He drags it wide.

10:17 , Dominic Booth

16 mins: Cameroon register their first chance of the game, but it really isn’t much to write home about – Nkoulou was off balance and had a swing, which was skied miles over.

10:14 , Dominic Booth

14 mins: Hongla is the latest player to need a bit of treatment, with some meaty challenges flying in here.

Zivkovic finds himself on the end of one.

 (Getty Images)
(Getty Images)

Off the post!

10:11 , Dominic Booth

11 mins: Mitrovic with some lovely feet, an excellent give-and-go with Milinkovic-Savic and then his left-footed strike wallops off the post!

Fortunate for Cameroon.

10:10 , Dominic Booth

10 mins: Zivkovic and Kostic are both looking dangerous in the Serbian wing-back positions, and all the crosses are heading one way – towards Mitrovic. Cameroon holding firm for now.

10:08 , Dominic Booth

8 mins: The Cameroon fans are renowned for bringing colour and noise to these World Cup games, but it’s the Serbian contingent who are in good voice here.

Their team have made an assured start.

 (Getty Images)
(Getty Images)

10:07 , Dominic Booth

6 mins: Good stuff from Serbia as Mitrovic jumps highest and heads just over the bar. Nice interplay involving Tadic and Milinkovic-Savic in the build-up.

10:05 , Dominic Booth

4 mins: Although these 10am kick offs have been fun, especially for us sports journalists, they haven’t produced a whole heap of goals. It won’t surprise you to hear that it’s been a scrappy start here.

10:03 , Dominic Booth

3 mins: As Fulham fans know very well, Mitrovic is a tough cookie, and he was quickly back on his feet there and will continue.

Cameroon looking to play long and direct into Choupo-Moting when possible.

10:02 , Dominic Booth

1 min: A very early concern for Serbia as Mitrovic falls awkwardly and he looks in some distress here. Eesh.

KICK OFF

10:00 , Dominic Booth

Here we go.

This is the last 10am kick off of this World Cup, so let’s hope it’s a good one.

09:58 , Dominic Booth

The players out are and it’s time for anthems and the big inflatable trophy thing in the centre circle.

Match odds

09:45 , Dominic Booth

The bookmakers are fairly confident that Serbia will win this one, here’s what Betfair are saying about the possible outcomes this morning:

Betfair - Cameroon v Serbia

  • Cameroon 4/1

  • Draw 5/2

  • Serbia 3/4

09:38 , Dominic Booth

Surprise, surprise... it’s a swelteringly hot day in Qatar again today, with the Al Janoub Stadium bathed in sunshine.

There will be air conditioning at pitch level, as has become customary at this tournament.

Onana sent home

09:23 , Dominic Booth

Various media outlets are now confirming that Andre Onana has been SENT HOME from Cameroon’s World Cup squad, after a disagreement with the coaching staff, including boss Rigobert Song. It’s even been claimed that Cameroon legend Samuel Eto’o tried to talk Onana round after a disagrement over the style of goalkeeping he played with seemed to spark the row.

 (Getty Images)
(Getty Images)

09:09 , Dominic Booth

No Andre Onana in the Cameroon lineup today, which we understand is for discplinary reasons. The Inter Milan goalkeeper is one of the stars of this Indomitable Lions’ team, so that comes as a blow. Devis Epassy takes his place in goal.

It’s a little suprising that Serbia continue to leave Dusan Vlahovic on the bench, as well. The European side have made two changes from the team that lost to Brazil, with Filip Kostić and Nikola Maksimović coming into the midfield; Gudejj and Mladenovic drop to the bench.

Serbia XI: Vlahovic on bench

08:57 , Dominic Booth

Serbia starting XI: Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, Milenkovic, Veljkovic, Pavlovic, Zivkovic, Lukic, Maksimovic, Kostic, Tadic, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Aleksandar Mitrovic

Subs: Dmitrovic, Erakovic, Radonjic, Gudelj, Jovic, Rajkovic, Stefan Mitrovic, Babic, Vlahovic, Racic, Djuricic, Lazovic, Ilic, Mladenovic, Grujic

Cameroon XI: No Onana

08:56 , Dominic Booth

Cameroon starting XI: Epassy; Fai, Castelletto, N’Koulou, Tolo, Zambo, Kunde, Hongla, Mbeumo, Choupo-Moting, Toko Ekambi.

Subs: Ngapandouetnbu, Mbekeli, Wooh, Ondoua, Ngamaleu, Nkoudou, Nsame, Aboubakar, Bassogog, Gouet, Mbaizo, Ntcham, Ebosse, Marou

08:36 , Dominic Booth

Mitrovic, or Vlahovic, or both?

As we prepare to get the teamsheets from Al Janoub Stadium, the suggestion is that Serbia could go with both of their big men up front together, having picked the Fulham man over the Juventus star against Brazil.

08:15 , Dominic Booth

An interesting tidbit here: Serbia have lost both of their previous World Cup games against African nations, losing 3-2 to Ivory Coast in 2006 (2-3) and 1-0 Ghana in 2010. In fairness, both those African sides were very good, and for 45 minutes against Brazil last week, Serbia actually looked quite good.

The permutations for both teams

08:03 , Dominic Booth

The situation in Group G is delicate for both Cameroon and Serbia, having both lost their opening games. Whoever loses today would be in serious jeapordy of being eliminated – and that would become a certainty if Brazil and Switzerland draw in the 4pm (GMT) kick off later.

They’d both still have a shot at qualification for the last 16 if this morning’s game was a draw, but both would prefer a win either way in the Brazil game, to give them a decent chance of second place.

Predicted lineups

07:52 , George Flood

Here is how we envisage both nations lining up in Al Wakrah today...

Cameroon predicted XI: Onana; Fai, N’Koulou, Castelletto, Tolo; Anguissa, Ondoua, Hongla; Mbeumo, Choupo-Moting, Toko Ekambi

Serbia predicted XI: V. Milinkovic-Savic; Milenkovic, Veljkovic, Pavlovic; Zivkovic, Gudelj, S. Milinkovic-Savic, Mladenovic; Tadic; Vlahovic, Mitrovic

Cameroon vs Serbia prediction

07:48 , George Flood

Neither of these sides played particularly badly in their respective openers, with Cameroon starting well against Switzerland and having decent chances through the likes of Choupo-Moting, Mbeumo and Martin Hongla.

However, they lacked end product and that proved their undoing in an eighth successive World Cup loss.

Serbia were on a bit of a hiding to nothing against Brazil, looking to deny their illustrious opponents space and counter, and did at least manage to keep the door shut until past the hour mark in Lusail.

However, they have far more flair and options in attack than to be that passive going forward again and will surely look to exert more control against Cameroon with additional firepower while keeping that defence solid.

I sense there are a couple of goals in this, but likely resulting in a hard-fought draw that keeps both sides alive but probably does little to advance their qualification hopes, boosting Switzerland’s hopes instead.

1-1 draw.

Serbia team news

07:47 , George Flood

Serbia could be boosted by the return to full fitness of highly-rated left wing-back Filip Kostic, who missed the defeat by Brazil with a knock.

He could come into the starting XI here as head coach Dragan Stojkovic seeks greater attacking impetus in a must-win fixture.

The same could also be true of Kostic’s Juventus team-mate Dusan Vlahovic, who came off the bench last time out having also been short of fitness.

He could also be brought in to boost an attack led by Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic - who also entered the tournament on the back of an injury - and Ajax legend Dusan Tadic.

Cameroon team news

07:43 , George Flood

Cameroon are set to remain without Olivier Ntcham today, with the Swansea midfielder ruled out of the group stage due to a hamstring injury.

That is the only known absentee for Rigobert Song’s Indomitable Lions, who have some interesting choices to make up front once more.

Captain Vincent Aboubakar started on the bench against Switzerland and was only handed a late second-half cameo, with Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting leading the line instead flanked by Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo and Karl Toko Ekambi.

Will Aboubakar get a more prominent role today, having been their undisputed talisman at a home Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year?
