There’s one "cheeky" decoration sure to make Prince George, seven, Princess Charlotte, six, and three-year-old Prince Louis laugh at Christmastime, according to their other Grandma.

In a precious insight into Christmas with the Middletons, Kate’s mum Carole has revealed that festive traditions in her house are never “too serious” because she loves hiding naughty gnomes around her home. Earning serious "fun granny" points, Carole apparently can't resist making the little ones giggle with a couple of £11.99 ornaments called Nordic Gnomes – which aren't exactly in keeping with her usual "immaculate" decorations, she admits.

“I’m going to need a few of these cheeky chaps this December to hide around the house and make my grandchildren laugh,” she wrote in an Instagram post for her online children’s store, Party Pieces. “As much as I love immaculate decorations, we can’t be too serious at Christmas!”

Nordic Gnomes are a Scandinavian tradition. They’re usually dressed in red and white with Santa hats just low enough to reveal little round noses and fluffy beards. Known for their mischievous nature, the cheeky ornaments always bring “plenty of festive cheer,” according to Carole’s website.

Kate’s mum – who’s also granny to Pippa’s two children Arthur, three, and eight-month-old Grace – is believed to be hosting one-third of the Cambridge family Christmas over in Berkshire. Earlier this month, it was revealed that Kate and Wills could be gearing up for a triple Christmas, the year after they were forced to stay at home in their family Covid-19 bubble for a very low-key celebration at Anmer Hall in Norfolk.

As well as their own small family Christmas, this year is expected to include a visit to Kate’s family and, of course, the usual grand festivities at Sandringham with her Majesty, The Queen, royal insider Duncan Larcombe revealed to OK! Magazine.

One thing Kate’s mum is no doubt particularly looking forward to is her first Christmas with her fifth grandchild, Pippa’s daughter Grace, who was born this March. However, Carole says she enjoys the build-up to Christmas just as much as the day itself and “always throws [herself] into the planning,” she said in an earlier Party Pieces post. Announcing her favourite party-season picks, she predicted: “December will be magic again!”
