California International Marathon closes Sacramento streets. Here’s where and when

The California International Marathon is here, which means you should expect several road closures in the Sacramento area.

Ninth Street between N Street and L Street will remain closed until 5 p.m. Sunday, as well as the Capitol Mall between Eighth Street and Ninth Street and Eighth and 10th streets between N and L streets.

For up-to-date road closure information, CIM recommends using the Waze app because the road closure schedule below is subject to change on race day.

The marathon will also affect buses and routes 11, 21, 23, 25, 26, 30, 38, 51, 62, 67, 68, 82, 84, 86, 87, 88 and 142 will have detours. Please allow extra travel time if you plan to take the bus Sunday.

Here’s what you need to know about the roads and buses scheduled to be affected Sunday, when more than 10,000 athletes are expected on the streets of Folsom and Sacramento, according to the marathon website:

Bus detours

The following is provided by the Sacramento Regional Transit District.

Route 11 - 7 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.

No service on Eighth Street between K Street and N Street.

Route 21 - 7:05 a.m. to 10:05 a.m.

No service between Sunrise Boulevard/Winding Way and Sunrise Boulevard/Trinity River Drive. Passengers must use route one and LRT to catch route 21 at either Sunrise Mall or Mather Fields/Mills Station.

Route 23 - 7:05 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

No service between San Juan Avenue/Winding Way and El Camino Avenue/Garfield Avenue. Passengers can catch the bus on Garfield Avenue and on Winding Way.

Route 25 - 7:05 a.m. to 11 a.m.

No service on Fair Oaks Boulevard.

Route 26 - 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The route will be operated between Fulton Avenue/Northrop Avenue and University/65th Street LRT using the freeway. Passengers traveling from University/65 Street to State University/College Town must use route 30 to California State University - Sacramento, which will stop in the Route 26 berth at University/65th Street.

Route 30 - 7 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.

No service at J street and Eighth Street.

No service on J Street between 29th Street and CSUS, on L Street east of Seventh Street and on Alhambra Boulevard.

The route will operate between University/65th Street and CSUS. It will stop at the Route 26 berth.

Route 38 - 7 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.

No service at J street and Eighth Street.

No service on J Street between 29th Street and CSUS, on L Street east of Seventh Street and on Alhambra Boulevard.

Route 51 - 7 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.

No service on Eighth Street between P Street and K Street.

Route 62 - 7 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.

No service on L Street.

Route 67 and 68 - 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

No service on 29th Street between G and P streets and on 30th Street between Q Street and G Street.

Route 84 - 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Southbound passengers going south of Northrop Avenue to La Riviera Drive or Watt Ave/Manlove Road must transfer to Routes 26, 82, or 87 on Hurley westbound by the 7-Eleven, ride Routes 26, 82, or 87 to University Avenue/65th.

Passengers then should transfer to the Gold Line OB, get off at Watt Ave/Manlove Road and transfer to Route 84 if going to La Riviera Drive.

Northbound passengers must catch the Gold Line IB at Watt Ave/Manlove Road, get off at University Avenue/65th, catch Routes 26, 82, or 87 at University Avenue/65th, get off at Howe Avenue/Hurley Way and take Route 80 on Hurley EB by the Chevron Station.

There will be a special shuttle between Watt Avenue/Manlove Road and La Riviera Drive/Watt Avenue.

Passengers traveling beyond La Riviera Drive/Watt Avenue should take the Gold Line IB at Watt Avenue/Manlove Road, get off at University Avenue/65th, catch routes 26, 82 or 87 at University Avenue/65th Street, get off at Howe Avenue/Hurley Way and catch Route 80 on Hurley EB by the Chevron station.

Route 86, 88 - 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Passengers who take routes 86 or 88 at J Street and Eighth Street or J Street and 11th Street, L Street and 11th Street or L Street and Ninth Street can catch them at L Street and Fifth Street.

Route 87 - 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Route 87 will operate non-stop between Howe Avenue/Hurley Way and University/65th Street LRT using the freeway. You can take 30 line to CSUS.

Route 142

Not operating on L Street. Passengers can board on J Street, but J Street and 14th Street will be a layover point.
