A U.S. judge on Thursday rejected a bid by Texas to block federal immigration authorities from destroying razor wire fencing that the state placed along the border with Mexico to deter illegal border crossings. U.S. District Judge Alia Moses in Del Rio, Texas, in a written order, criticized the Biden administration for its "utter failure" to prevent unlawful entry into the United States, but said Texas was unlikely to prevail on its claims that a federal policy of removing the fencing was illegal. Moses denied the state's motion to block federal officials from destroying the wire fencing pending the outcome of the state's lawsuit filed in October.
It’s not a new problem, but it’s one the Oldman Rose Society of Southern Alberta hopes the Town Of Pincher Creek will address — deer. The group, appearing at Monday’s town council meeting, said it’s been forced to fence its entire rose garden next to Lebel Mansion, to protect its blooms and bushes from what it calls deer predation. “At considerable expense, both monetary and our volunteer labour, we have tried various methods to control the deer,” said spokeswoman Donna Cisar in a presentation t
It’s a song about alcoholism and a darkly dysfunctional marriage, it’s replete with crude swear words and insults, and it has found itself at the centre of an escalating culture war for years. And yet Fairytale of New York by The Pogues remains one of Britain’s favourite Christmas songs. The sad death of the band’s hell-raising singer Shane MacGowan after a long period of ill health will give the song a new lease of life this festive season, as if it ever needed one.

Euro zone inflation is going in the right direction but risks are skewed towards more negative outcomes, so a further rate hike cannot be taken off the table and cuts should not even be discussed, Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel said on Thursday. Euro zone inflation tumbled to 2.4% this month, coming well below expectations for the third straight month, fuelling market bets that European Central Bank interest rates will come down much quicker than the bank now guides. Investors see the first cut in April and a total of 115 basis points of moves in 2024, even as ECB President Christine Lagarde and several other policymakers are making the case for several quarters of steady rates to fully extinguish inflationary pressures.

The future of a contentious condominium proposed by Bice Builders at the end of King Street is now out of the hands of Niagara-on-the-Lake's councillors.
