Bus crash kills four in eastern Brazil

STORY: Most of the victims were teenagers and belonged to the youth teams of Vila Maria Helena, a youth football club in Rio de Janeiro.

According to the latest report from the Fire Brigade, the deaths included three teenagers, aged between 14 and 17, and one adult.

"The driver lost control of the vehicle and fell off the bridge, it was left with his wheels up and leaning on the roof," said Agent Colen, a member of the Brazilian Federal Highway Police

According to local media, the accident occurred in the early hours of Monday morning, near the municipality of Alem Paraiba in Minas Gerais state, when the bus fell off a 10-metre bridge after the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The injured were transferred to nearby health centres.

Vila Maria team were returning victorious after participating in the final of the Copa Nacional tournament, where they had won the title in the U-18s and runners-up in the U-16s.
