Bulletproof Captain America Shield Replica Actually Exists

With ‘Captain America: Civil War’ just around the corner, a video’s been uploaded to the internet of a life-sized bulletproof replica shield like the one we see in the movies.

Gun enthusiast and one of the fastest recorded shooters of all time, Jerry Miculek shared the video on his YouTube channel as he proved that this replica was in fact totally functional in a combat situation, but we’re not convinced it’d withstand a blow from Thor’s hammer or blast from Iron Man.

The shield certainly looks the part and is a scaled construction of the famed shield Cap uses in the movies. And since vibranium is a fictional metal, this near-perfect imitation was constructed out of titanium. The shield is also the same weight - 12 pounds - as the fictional hero’s, so perpare yourself to see how impressively it withstands the speedy shooting of Miculek (he’s a world record holder for rapid firing 8 rounds of a .45 ACP pistol, by the way).

Check out the video below to see for yourself.

As you can see, the shield can take quite a beating where guns are concerned, which would’ve been fine for Cap during World War II, but we certainly wouldn’t recommend trying this at home.

What next, a flying Iron Man suit? An Ant-Man-inspired shrinking suit? A Norse God hammer that can smash through anything and everything? We didn’t think so.

‘Captain America: Civil War’ is in UK cinemas from 29 April.
