BTS Will Perform New Single, ‘Butter,’ on Billboard Music Awards

BTS has set the television performance debut of the group’s forthcoming single, “Butter,” for the Billboard Music Awards May 23.

The vocal group will perform remotely from Korea on the show, to be broadcast on NBC live across time zones in the U.S. at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.

“Butter,” the group’s second English-language single, will have been out to the public for a little less than three days when the group performs the song on the Billboard Awards. The single is set to be released at midnight ET on May 21.

BTS is nominated in four categories for the 2021 BBMAs: Top Duo/Group, Top Song Sales Artist, Top Social Artist (Fan Voted) and Top Selling Song.

The group has won Top Social Artist for the last four years in a row and, given the strength of the BTS Army, is a heavy favorite to make it five. The record-holder for that fan-voted category is Justin Bieber, who won it six years in a row from 2011-2016.

The group last appeared on the Billboard Music Awards two years ago, performing its first English-language single, “Dynamite,” also remotely from Korea.

BTS is the third artist announced for a performance on this year’s telecast, following Pink and the Weeknd. Nick Jonas is set to host.

The two fan-voted categories are open for voting from May 10-21. Other categories are based purely on data collected for the Billboard charts from March 21, 2020 through April 3, 2021.

Pink has been announced as recipient of the annual Icon Award, and Drake was just announced Tuesday morning to receive the Artist of the Decade honor.

The Weeknd leads the field for competitive honors this year with 16 nominations, ahead of DaBaby with 11, the late Pop Smoke with 10, and country singer Gabby Barrett, who’s up for nine.
