Bruce Campbell wants Evil Dead to carry on without him

From Digital Spy

Bruce Campbell may not want to play the part of chainsaw-wielding demon slayer Ash Williams anymore, but that doesn't mean he wants the Evil Dead stories to come to an end either.

The actor has played Ash since 1981's The Evil Dead, but last month he revealed that he'd "retired" from the role following the news that Starz had cancelled his most recent Evil Dead project, TV series Ash vs Evil Dead, after three seasons on air.

But while Ash Williams may not be around anymore, Campbell replied to a fan who asked if he would give his blessing to the Evil Dead universe carrying on without him, and revealed that the stories should absolutely continue.

"Not that they need it, but of course," he wrote. "Lots of unexplored stories and crossovers in the Evil Dead universe. #nextgen."

Campbell's Ash is the only character to appear in each entry of the series, which includes three films and the Starz show.

"Ash vs Evil Dead has been the ride of a lifetime," star Bruce Campbell said in a statement marking the end of the series.

"Ash Williams was the role of a lifetime. It was an honour to reunite with Evil Dead partners Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi to give our tireless fans another taste of the outrageous horror/comedy they demanded.

"I will always be grateful to Starz for the opportunity to revisit the franchise that launched our careers."

Ash vs Evil Dead concluded last month, and its finale left fans just a little frustrated by the unintentional cliffhanger the series cancellation left the show on.

Unfortunately for fans, Campbell also ruled out returning to the Evil Dead movie franchise if the show was cancelled when he spoke at an event earlier this year, commenting: "If they cancel it, I think Ash is done."
