Brooklyn Nets' Yuta Watanabe accidentally dunks on his own net, scoring for Pacers

As if the Brooklyn Nets' 1-5 start to the NBA season isn't ugly enough, one highlight reel is encapsulating the early season woes in comic fashion.

Nets forward Yuta Watanabe went skying for a rebound in first quarter action of Saturday's 125-116 loss to the Indiana Pacers, trying to out-muscle Pacers players James Johnson and Goga Bitadze.

After Pacers guard Andrew Nembhard's missed jumper ricocheted off the rim, Watanabe was unable to corral the ball and his plunging momentum actually led him to score in the Pacers' basket.

Normally when a basket is scored by accident like this, it's not a dunk. Just like that, though, the 6-8 forward scored two points for his opponent.

Nets coach Steve Nash told reporters after the game that the Nets' start to the 2022-23 season has been a "disaster."

Watanabe's play made its way on the internet over the weekend, catching the eye of Turner Sports commentator Shaquille O'Neal, who regularly blasts NBA players' blunders for his "Shaqtin a Fool" segment.

Yuta Watanabe is an undrafted Japanese player who was picked up by the Nets during free agency this offseason. He played for four years of Division I college ball at George Washington and has represented the Japanese National Team.
