I love my bed, and never more so than in the colder months when it's nice and cozy under the covers. My house lacks central heating, and the bedroom gets cold as temperatures drop. Which is why I jumped at the chance to try the first-ever flannel sheets from my favorite bedding brand, Brooklinen.

For a long time, I used any old sheets I could find at an affordable price without giving them much thought. Sheets are sheets, right? And while I don't think you need to spend a lot of money in order to get a good night's sleep, bedtime did get a whole lot better once I discovered Brooklinen. The brand's summer weight linen sheets are a lifesaver on warm nights (did I mention I don't have air conditioning, either?), and the newly-launched flannel is about to become my fall and winter staple.

The brand sent me a Flannel Core Sheet Set in gray windowpane to test ahead of the launch. Core sets include your standard essentials: fitted sheet, flat sheet, and two envelope-style pillowcases. There are other options, like the Hardcore Bundle, which includes sheets, plus a duvet cover and two additional pillowcases, and the Move-In Bundle, featuring all the pieces from the Hardcore Bundle, plus an actual comforter and pillows.

I was immediately impressed with how soft the 100 percent cotton flannel sheets felt straight out of the box—softer, even more so than my other favorite flannel sheets from L.L. Bean. The Queen size perfectly fit my bed (no playing Twister with the fitted sheet!). Best of all, they are so cozy, while remaining fairly lightweight. October where I live is still mild temperature-wise, but it begins to get chilly at night and in the early morning. These sheets have been keeping me toasty warm without causing me to overheat. Flannel sheets, in general, can be a bit suffocating and heavy, but Brooklinen's take is refreshingly airy. I can already tell that I'll be reaching for them from now through the dead of winter.

The brand touts the new flannel release as a less expensive alternative to its popular, luxe Heathered Cashmere fabric, which has garnered over 14,000 customer reviews. While a Heathered Cashmere Core Sheet Set starts at $279, the Flannel Core Sheet Set, at $170, is over $100 cheaper. I can't speak to the cashmere, but I can say that all the Brooklinen bedding I've tried has been well worth the investment for creating a luxurious sleep experience.

And customers tend to agree that Brooklinen is worth the splurge. "My husband and I recently WAY splurged on these sheets," wrote one reviewer of the Heathered Cashmere. "We are so in love with these sheets. [They] are perfectly cozy (we live in an old 1909 cabin that likes to be at 40 degrees, which is pretty cool), but also seem to regulate temperature well, as we are both hot sleepers. These are so cozy, I'm delighted to crawl into bed at night! (I'm also sleeping way better!)."

Shopper reviews for the new flannel sheets have not begun to roll in just yet, but I can certainly vouch for the quality. Head over to Brooklinen now and stock up on flannel sheets before winter really creeps in.
