Britney Spears announced on Instagram that she and fiancé Sam Asghari are no longer expecting a child together, after they suffered a miscarriage.

'This is devastating time for any parent.

'Perhaps we should have waited to announce until we were further along however we were overly excited to share the good news. our love for each other is our strength.

'We will continue trying to expand our beautiful family.

'We are grateful for all of your support. We kindly ask for privacy during this difficult moment [sic].'

The message was signed from 'Sam and Britney'.

Britney Spears has announced that she is pregnant with her third child.

On Monday, April 11 the 40-year-old singer shared a photo of a pink cup and saucer surrounded by pink flowers. An excerpt of the caption reads: 'So I got a pregnancy test … and uhhhhh well … I am having a baby. [sic]'

The Crossroads star highlighted that she recently decided to take a pregnancy test after noticing fluctuations in her weight. Spears, who referred to her fiancé Asghari as her 'husband' in the post, explained that following the revelation about her pregnancy, she doesn't plan to be out in public much in the coming months.

Spears explained that her reasons for keeping a low profile will be in order to prevent paparazzi from 'getting their money shot' of her.

The pregnancy, which marks hers and Asghari's first together, follows the termination of the singer's 13 year-long conservatorship on November 12, 2021 after Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny ruled in favour of her freedom.

Spears previously claimed that she was forced to take birth control during the legal agreement.

In her recent pregnancy announcement Spears wrote about how 'hard' it was dealing with the public's attention and scrutiny while pregnant with her first two children. She also noted how she suffered from perinatal depression, which NHS England states affects those during pregnancy or in the first year following the birth of a child. 'Perinatal mental illness affects up to 20% of new and expectant mums and covers a wide range of conditions,' it adds on its website.

She wrote of the mental health issue: 'I have to say it is absolutely horrible... Women didn’t talk about it back then. [sic]'

Spears continued, noting: 'Some people considered it dangerous if a woman complained like that with a baby inside her … but now women talk about it everyday … thank Jesus we don’t have to keep that pain a reserved proper secret [sic].'

Paris Hilton, who's been vocal about wanting twins and going through with IVF during a recent appearance on The Trend Reporter podcast with Mara Schiavocampo, commented on Spears' post: 'Congratulations sis!! I’m so excited for you!! Love you!!! [sic].'

Asghari, 28, also addressed Spears' pregnancy announcement.

He wrote on his own Instagram page: 'Marriage and kids are a natural part of a strong relationship filled with love and respect. Fatherhood is something i have always looked forward to and i don’t take lightly. It is the most important job i will ever do [sic].'

It's believed Spears' conservatorship also prevented her from remarrying. Before the legal arrangement's official termination, she informed fans that she was engaged to her partner, who she's been dating since 2016.

Following Spears' court hearing last year, which saw her freed from her conservatorship, she tweeted: 'I’m gonna cry the rest of the day, [sic]’

She also shared a video and addressed her fans, noting: 'My voice was muted and threatened for so long, and I wasn’t able to speak up or say anything, and because of you guys and awareness of kind of knowing what was going on and delivering that news to the public for so long, you gave it awareness to all of them.

'Because of you, I honestly think you guys saved my life in a way. 100% [sic]'
