British royal aide steps down after racist comments

STORY: Prince William's godmother has resigned from her role in the royal household after making racist remarks.

At a grand reception at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday, Lady Susan Hussey repeatedly asked a charity worker, who is black, where she was from.

Ngozi Fulani, who was born in Britain and works for a domestic abuse support group, wrote on Twitter that the royal aide had repeatedly asked her:

"What part of Africa are you from?"

The exchange happened at a 'Violence Against Women And Girls’ reception hosted by the Queen.

Other guests included Ukraine's first lady and the Queens of Belgium and Jordan.

Buckingham Palace released a statement on Wednesday, saying they took the incident "extremely seriously" and that "unacceptable and deeply regrettable comments have been made."

The incident is the latest to embroil the royal family in allegations of racism.

In an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, Prince Harry's wife Meghan said one unnamed member of the royal family had asked, before their son Archie was born, how dark his skin might be.

Last year, a senior royal source said Buckingham Palace had not done enough on diversity.
