Netflix smash hit Bridgerton will be returning for a second series.

On Thursday, the streaming giant confirmed via its social media accounts that the raunchy Regency drama would be getting another instalment.

Declaring the news in the style of the narrator Lady Whistledown's Society Paper, an Instagram post read: "The ton are abuzz with the latest gossip, and so it is my honour to impart to you: Bridgerton shall officially return for a second season.

“I do hope you have stored a bottle of ratafia for this most delightful occasion.”

The announcement also implied that the eldest Bridgerton sibling Anthony, played by Jonathan Bailey, will be the focal point of the next run as in the second book by author Julia Quinn.

The first was centred around the romance between his younger sister Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) and the Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page).

Penelope Featherington star Nicola Coughlan shared the good news to her Twitter account, writing: "Dearest Viewers, this author is proud to announce #Bridgerton Season Two, expect much scandal indeed!"

The series, which is produced by Shonda Rhimes’ Shondaland, was released on Christmas Day in the UK.

At the beginning of the month, Netflix predicted 63 million households would watch Bridgerton in its first four weeks.

It’s Rhimes’ first show for Netflix after she signed a massive $150 million deal with them in 2017.
