Brad Pitt has signed up to star in a new movie from Deadpool 2 and Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw director David Leitch.

Variety reports that the actor, who won his first Oscar this year for his role in Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, has joined the cast of action-thriller movie Bullet Train, which is based on Japanese novel Maria Beetle by Kotaro Isaka.

Leitch will reportedly direct and produce the Sony Pictures film – with Kelly McCormick, Antoine Fuqua and Kat Samick also producing – and supervise the script, which is being written by Zak Olkewicz.

It has not yet been confirmed when production will begin.

The novel Bullet Train, about several members of the Japanese criminal underworld who find themselves on the same bullet train with conflicting orders, is set to be published in English in 2021, so you should have the opportunity to read it before the movie is released if you want to head in with some knowledge.

Pitt recently spoke about the fact that he turned down the huge role of Neo in The Matrix, which went to Keanu Reeves instead, saying that he "took the red pill".

The actor has starred in plenty more huge movies though, including Fight Club, Ocean's Eleven, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Ad Astra, so his career clearly wasn't done any harm.

Of course he also made a one-off cameo in sitcom Friends as Ross Geller's old school friend Will Colbert, who had made up a rumour about Rachel Green when they were at high school.

Friends co-creator Marta Kauffman has since said that if given another chance she wouldn't have written Will's rumour in the same way, saying, "I might have not done the hermaphrodite stuff today if I had that to do over".
