Stars of former pop band Boyzone are set to attend a football match at Chorley FC amid rumours the group are eyeing a bid to buy shares in the club.

Ronan Keating, Shane Lynch and Keith Duffy will appear at Saturday's FA Trophy clash against Solihull.

Chorley said it was part of discussions that could see the Irish musicians "become the face of the club".

The Lancashire club declined to give more detail despite widespread newspaper speculation.

Tom Clarke, the the Vanarama National League club's chief operating officer, said he was "thrilled" the trio would be attending.

He said the move had "the potential to bring our town into the limelight like never before".

Former Westlife star Brian McFadden will also be attending the game at Victory Park, the club said.

Owner Prince Yemoh has said he wanted to restore the "buzz" around the club following his takeover in May last year.

Celebrity involvement in football clubs has received growing attention ever since the likes of Wrexham's 2020 acquisition by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

The BBC has made efforts to reach the Boyzone musicians for comment.

Mr Clarke said: "This collaboration with Boyzone is part of ongoing discussions that could potentially see them becoming the face of Chorley FC.

"This is a game-changer that has the potential to bring our town into the limelight like never before, generating a buzz and publicity that will shine a bright light on Chorley."

He added: "We are bursting with excitement and gratitude for this incredible opportunity.

"Boyzone's presence at the game will undoubtedly create an electric atmosphere, filled with music, joy, and a shared love for football and community."

Formed in 1993, Boyzone had UK number ones with hits including Words, No Matter What and All That I Need.

Band member Stephen Gately died in 2009.
