Boyfriend charged after missing woman’s body found in landfill, Oregon sheriff says

A 27-year-old woman’s body found in a landfill near Portland resulted in the arrest of her boyfriend accused of killing her, Oregon sheriff’s officials reported.

Fabian Albert Hernandez, 31, faces charges including murder and abuse of a corpse, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

The family of Kaylee Birdzell reported her missing Friday, Aug. 5, the sheriff’s office said.

Investigators later learned she had been killed and her body dumped in a garbage can at an apartment complex in Aloha, west of Portland, according to KGW.

On Tuesday, Aug. 9, deputies searched a landfill in Benton County and discovered her body, the release said.

“There was a couple of semi trucks full of the garbage and they were able to get investigators out there, and they just took the tedious task of going through the garbage bit by bit and doing everything they could to help solve this case,” Sgt. Danny DiPietro told KGW.

Deputies had earlier arrested Hernandez on unrelated charges of identity theft and fraudulent use of a credit card, the release said. Investigators also charged him with killing Birdzell and disposing of her body on Wednesday, Aug. 10.

Additional charges are likely, the sheriff’s office said.

Investigators ask that anyone with information call 503-846-2700.
