The Boxyard RTP development will say goodbye to a popular restaurant this week

Boxyard RTP has a variety of restaurants and vendors as well as ample outdoor patio seating.

The Boxyard RTP development will lose its first tenant later this month.

The fast casual Tex-Mex restaurant Carrburritos will close its RTP location, with the last service set to be May 21.

This was the second Triangle location for the decades-old Carrburritos, a California style taco and burrito shop founded in Carrboro by Bill and Gail Fairbanks in 1997.

Fairbanks’ daughter Rae Mosher took over Carrburritos a few years ago and announced the expansion in 2019 as Boxyard RTP was in development.

In a social media post, Mosher pointed to supply chain issues and and staffing shortages as the driving forces behind the closure.

“With this pandemic world of staffing and supply shortages, we are choosing to focus our resources on our Carrboro store,” the restaurant said on Instagram. “Thank you for all of the love and support you have shown us, and shout out to Boxyard RTP for being a super rad community. We’ll miss you!”

The closure of Carrburritos will open a space in Boxyard RTP for the first time, following its launch in 2021.

Remaining restaurant vendors include Fullsteam, Lawrence Barbecue, Bulkogi and Beyu Caffe.
