The forthcoming Bond film has been pushed back until 8 October, with Covid-19 cases reaching new peaks in the UK and the US. No Time To Die has already been delayed twice; it was originally due for release in April 2020, and then was moved to November 2020 and later to April 2021.

The announcement, which was shared on the film's official website, confirms reports last week that the movie would be postponed until the autumn. Deadline wrote that those who have seen the movie, which also stars Lashana Lynch and Rami Malek, say it will be "well worth the wait". There is now speculation as to whether the latest instalment will be released at cinemas at all, and instead will be released on a streaming platform.

When the film was pushed back to November, it was reported that 38 per cent of box office profits from the last Bond movie, Spectre, came from countries now affected by coronavirus. MGM will be anticipating big profits given previous 007 successes - Spectre grossed $880.6m in 2015, while Skyfall, released in 2012, was the highest-grossing Bond film of all time at $1.1 billion.

No Time to Die, directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, is expected to be Daniel Craig’s final Bond film. His successor, although widely discussed, has not been announced. The latest name to be mooted is Bridgerton's Regé-Jean Page, who has proved a big hit in Netflix's period drama.

In other Bond-related news, Phoebe Waller-Bridge - who was enlisted to work on the No Time To Die script - has reportedly been asked to develop a 007 spin-off which will centre on his daughter training to become a spy.
