Why bobsled athlete Alysia Rissling often skips her pre-race meal

In bobsled, in order to achieve the requirements to compete, an athlete must qualify under the weight limit. So Canadian Olympic bobsled competitor Alysia Rissling knows that when race day rolls around, she must be mindful of her food intake.

“With some of the breakmen, I can weigh a certain amount and with others, I can’t weigh that,” said the first time Olympic Athlete.

Sometimes Rissling can be put into trying situations at competitions because of the weight limit.

“In Korea, I think I had a little bit of yogurt the day of, and that was all I was allowed to eat until our first run was over,” the Olympian confessed.

Though most athletes must eat well in order to have the right amount of energy for a competition, Rissling says it’s different for her. “The one thing for sure for a bobsled race is I never have a problem getting up for it. I never have a problem with energy levels.”

Regardless of what her eating situation on race day is, you can count on Rissling and teammate Heather Moyse having a strong performance in PyeongChang.
