Yahoo Movies Bobby Brown was 'scared to death' to marry Whitney Houston, locked himself in bathroom on wedding day
A new tell-all documentary about Bobby Brown will, among other things, shed some light on the Grammy winner's relationship with his first wife, Whitney Houston.
In a clip from Biography: Bobby Brown that EW can exclusively share above, Brown admits he was "scared to death" to marry Houston on their wedding day back in 1992 — and that the only reason he was able to overcome his fear was because of his friend and current wife, Alicia Etheredge-Brown.
"My friend was talking to his fiancé and had mentioned that Bob didn't want to come out of the bathroom," Etheredge-Brown explains in the clip, talking about the wedding day. After getting ready, they went to see him, assuming that he had just gotten "the jitters." But Brown admits it was more intense than that.
"I was in there drinking... smoking... sniffing," he says. And while Brown was being his "stubborn little self," his now-wife took matters into her own hands.
"Bobby, it's Alicia. Listen, you gotta get out of this bathroom now," she recounts telling him. When Brown told his friend he was scared because he didn't know if Houston loved him or not, she set him straight. Brown finally came to his senses.
"This was something that just stuck with me," he says.

A two-night event airing Monday, May 30, and Tuesday, May 31, Biography: Bobby Brown will give fans an up-close and personal look at Brown's career, including his journey to superstardom, the fallout from his personal struggles with drugs and alcohol, and the tragic deaths of Houston and his two children.
Following the premiere of Biography, A&E will premiere the first episode in the new 12-episode series Bobby Brown: Every Little Step, which will give viewers an exclusive look at Brown's present-day life with his family as he focuses on new business ventures as well as a new 2022 tour with New Edition.
Biography: Bobby Brown premieres May 30 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Bobby Brown: Every Little Step premieres May 31 at 10pm ET/PT, with new episodes airing Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT starting June 7.
