As far as we can recall from high school English, “The Sound and The Fury” does not include any hockey. So what exactly were the Gretzkys doing at the film’s TIFF premiere on Saturday, Sept. 6?

Retired NHL legend Wayne Gretzky showed up on the Ryerson Theatre red carpet with his wife, Janet Jones, and his two sons Tristan and Ty on Saturday. The foursome posed for photos alongside the film’s director and star James Franco.

Jones was fresh off promoting the William Faulkner adaptation in Venice on Friday alongside Franco, with whom she appears in the film.

“I hope to do more and more and more,” she told City News yesterday of returning to acting. The 53-year-old actress previously starred with Franco, just last year, in the film adaptation of his short story collection, “Palo Alto,” her first big screen role in seven years.

Before becoming a Gretzky, Jones actually started out as an actress, her big break coming when she appeared opposite Matt Dillon in “The Flamingo Kid” in 1984. Three years later she appeared on the cover of Playboy, followed by small roles in “Police Academy 5,” “A League of Their Own” and more recently, “Alpha Dog.”

But she has largely been out of the limelight since marrying The Great One in 1988. These days it’s her daughter, Paulina Gretzky, who has been claiming the most attention. The 25-year-old singer and actress appeared in the Adam Sandler film “Grown Ups 2” last year and recently popped up on the December cover of Maxim.

But she seems to have sidelined her career since getting engaged to golf star Dustin Johnson, who announced in July he was taking a break from his career to address “personal challenges.”

“One thing I get from my mom is this constant need to support the person that you’re with,” Paulina told Golf Digest earlier this year. “In this athletic world, I see how hard it is for Dustin sometimes.”
