TIFF 2012 up-and-comers: Bonny, the dog from ‘Seven Psychopaths’

The 2012 Toronto International Film Festival is a great place for Hollywood's up-and-coming talents to strut their stuff and make their big-screen debut in style. That goes for men as well as man's best friend.

The Martin McDonagh gangster-thriller "Seven Psychopaths" definitely wasn't short on star power when it had its world premiere as part of TIFF's Midnight Madness programme. At 11:59 p.m. on Friday night, the film's cast (Colin Farrell, Woody Harrelson, Christopher Walken, Abbie Cornish, Sam Rockwell, and Olga Kurylenko) came out to greet fans on the red carpet and inside the theatre.

But as captivating as Cornish's orange gown or Walken's blowout undeniably were, the main attraction was clearly Bonny, the film's only star on four legs.

With a satin silver-grey bow in her hair and a bejeweled collar around her neck, Bonny was a regular furry femme-fatale on the red carpet, stealing hearts as she went -- including the heart of Walken himself, who snapped her up in his arms to greet fans, reporters, and photographers.

"Now this is a first in the 24-year history of Midnight Madness," announced the programme's director Colin Geddes, who brought the two-year-old Shih Tzu on stage with him after the screening. "A big thanks to CBS films for presenting Bonny to you guys."

According to her Facebook page, "Seven Psychopaths" is Bonny's first film, and a part she nabbed at only ten months old. In the film, she plays the pet pooch of gangster Charlie (Woody Harrelson) who gets dog-napped by screenwriter Marty (Colin Farrell) and his friend Billy (Sam Rockwell).

With her early life spent among the stars, we're hoping it doesn't go to Bonny's head -- she did, after all, get her own seat and a bunch of "aw"s during the Q&A before Cornish picked her up and eventually passed her off to her handlers (a little co-star jealousy, perhaps?).

But choosing to play it quiet and classy (unlike some other Oscar-winning canine showoffs we'd rather not mention), Bonny is on her way to marking herself as Hollywood's next It-Girl. Or, rather, It-Pup.
