TBT: Remember when Tina Turner turned 'Mad Max' into a power ballad?

If you find yourself scuttling out of the multiplex this weekend having just borne witness to the insane glory of “Mad Max: Fury Road,” please ask yourself one question: would the movie have been

better if it had featured a kick-ass Tina Turner song? The answer, of course, is yes.

Max’s last outing, 1985’s “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome” isn’t considered anywhere near the best of the franchise, but it did give the world Tina Turner’s hit ballad “We Don’t Need Another Hero (Thunderdome),” which topped the charts at the time, and can now be heard echoing through the aisles of grocery stores everywhere. Well guess what: thanks to the magic of the Internet, we can all still enjoy the majesty of Tina’s Mad Max-themed music video.

As the video opens, we see that Tina is dressed as her Mad Max character Aunty Entity, so she’s presumably singing this song in-character-- which is no big deal, because navigating a cannibal-ridden post-apocalyptic wasteland is nothing compared to being married to Ike Turner.

Also, she’s singing on top of a glowing white disc, which, frankly seems more like Tron than Mad Max.

The video naturally features a lot of footage from the movie, with some edits making it seem like Tina is actually singing directly to Mel Gibson. If only she could have warned him not to become such a creep.

Then, before you can say “post-apocalyptic saxophone solo” we get a post-apocalyptic saxophone solo.

The Mad Max-verse is pretty cutthroat and dangerous, but somehow a Kenny G-esque musician managed to survive it? Weird. Anyways, remember all those kids in “Beyond Thunderdome?” Well, they show up at the end of the video, singing backup, which, thankfully they never did in the movie.

So remember: Mad Max movies aren’t just about explosions, car chases, and punked-out villains-- they’re also about singing your heart out, blistering sax solos, and tolerating a children’s choir.

"Mad Max: Fury Road" is now playing.
