Haley Joel Osment lands a role in the ‘Entourage’ movie: Is the ‘Sixth Sense’ star poised for a comeback?

For a few years there, it seemed as though child star Haley Joel Osment was everywhere. After his breakthrough performance in M. Night Shyamalan’s 1999 thriller “The Sixth Sense,” Osment became the most in-demand child performer in Hollywood, garnering critical acclaim in movies like “Pay It Forward” and “A.I. Artificial Intelligence.”

Then he grew up. The kid who famously saw dead people mostly disappeared from the public eye, and the only ghosts he was seeing was the spectre of a once successful acting career.

But is Osment finally set for a serious comeback? Maybe.

According to Deadline, the former child star just snagged a supporting role in the much ballyhooed "Entourage" movie, a role that will likely see him play some version of himself. It’s a promising step for the now 25-year-old actor and just one of the many projects he has on the go.

Osment just wrapped shooting on director Kevin Smith's weirdo comedy "Tusk," a horror movie about a man who mutates into a walrus. The film is due out later this year. The actor has also been cropping up quite a bit on the small screen in recent years. He had a supporting role in the IFC miniseries "The Spoils of Babylon" and can currently be seen on the Amazon-produced "Alpha House."

What triggered this comeback? The turning point seems to have come when Osment made a cameo on the cult comedy series “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” in 2012. He played the character of “New Mac” due to his strong resemblance to “It’s Always Sunny” star Rob McElhenney. The small but memorable role put the former child star back on Hollywood’s radar.

So what has Osment been up to for the past decade or so? Though there were a few choice roles here and there (see: “Second Hand Lions”), like many child stars Osment struggled to find work in his teen years. The actor has primarily been known for his voice role in the video game series “Kingdom Hearts,” a joint venture between game publisher Square Enix and Disney.

Don't call it a comeback quite yet, but it looks like audiences will be seeing much more of Haley Joel Osment in the coming years.
