Fan gives a digital makeover to Michael Bay’s ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’

Despite months of bad press, the first trailer for Michael Bay's “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” reboot went over fairly well, amassing more than 30 million views on YouTube so far. But did something about the famous heroes in a half-shell seem slightly off?

If you answered yes, then you join ranks of Turtle fans who have taken issue with the revamped appearance of the pizza-scarfing mutants -- specifically their noseless faces. The appearance of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has remained pretty much identical for almost 30 years, from the original comic book up to the 2007 computer animated movie "TMNT." Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Donatello have looked more or less the same in every medium they’ve appeared in -- except the upcoming Bay-produced reboot.

Apparently very unsatisfied with the Ninja Turtles’ appearance, one fan put his photo altering skills to work: by digitally altering stills from the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” trailer, the fan made our heroes look a lot more like we remember. The work first cropped up on social news site Reddit.

Unfortunately, it’s unlikely to ever become a reality, because Michael Bay is notoriously stubborn when it comes to this sort of thing. The director was famously unapologetic to "Transformers" fans after he unveiled the robot redesigns for that franchise's 2007 reboot, and he stuck with them for three movies. The redesigned robot characters in the upcoming “Transformers: Age of Extinction” don't look much different, so don't expect Bay to cave to fan pressure any time soon and alter the appearance of the Ninja Turtles before "TMNT's" August release.

Bay hasn’t commented on these fan redesigns yet, but he was quick to slap down rumours of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” being delayed for reshoots this week.

Starring Megan Fox, Will Arnett, and William Fichtner, the new “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” hits theatres on Aug. 8.
