‘Drew: The Man Behind the Poster’ trailer

While big blockbuster movies usually steal the show at San Diego Comic Con every year, there are also a number of smaller projects that debut to great fanfare at the convention. One such project is the documentary "Drew: The Man Behind the Poster," a new film about famed poster artist Drew Struzan. While a documentary might ordinarily seem out of place at an event like Comic Con, both "Drew" and the man that the film profiles will fit right in.

You see, Struzan is responsible for creating some of the most memorable and iconic movie posters of the last four decades - the so-called blockbuster era. Before the internet and TV bombarded us with trailers and commercials for upcoming films, the movie poster was the primary means of promotion for big Hollywood films. An amazing and highly detailed poster went a long way towards putting people in seats, and some of the most significant and successful films of the 1980s were postered by Struzan - From "Star Wars" and "Indiana Jones," to "The Thing," "Back to the Future," and "The Goonies." More recently Struzan has created memorable posters for the "Star Wars" prequels (perhaps the only memorable thing about them), "The Green Mile, the "Harry Potter" films, and "Hellboy" - though the latter poster never made it to theatres.

Featuring interviews with Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Harrison Ford, Thomas Jane, and more, "Drew: The Man Behind the Poster" is a portrait of the man and his wonderful work. Watch the trailer for the film below.

By Sunday at Comic Con, many of the big studios have cleared out and only the most die-hard fans still have energy to attend. But those who stick around for the "Drew" panel will be treated to clips from the film, as well as a Q&A with director Erik Sharkey, Struzan himself and actor Thomas Jane ("Hung") - a self-proclaimed fan Struzan's work. Comic Con: Not just for blockbusters anymore!
