Chloe Grace Moretz gushes over Hillary Clinton in Toronto

Rising star Chloe Grace Moretz (“Kick Ass,” “Carrie”) stopped by Toronto this week, hitting the MuchMusic Video Awards red carpet on Sunday to promote her upcoming film “If I Stay,” based on Gayle Forman’s bestselling young adult novel of the same name.

At least, that was the plan. Even as Moretz took over Yahoo Popped's Instagram account on Monday, her schedule with the press was running slightly behind. The reason? The 17-year-old starlet was meeting Hillary Clinton.

An opportunity
The former United States Secretary of State (and likely Presidential candidate) happened to be down the street for a signing of her new book “Hard Choices.” Being within just a few blocks of Clinton, Moretz said it was an opportunity she couldn’t pass up.

We arrived at Toronto’s Four Season’s hotel just in time to share an elevator with the young actress, who was clearly still starstruck and gushing about her encounter with the former First Lady. Moretz enthusiastically showed off her signed copy of Clinton’s book for us.

“It was wildly amazing,” Moretz said of meeting Clinton. “I was so freaked out, I almost cried.”

Though she’s still not old enough to vote, Moretz revealed that she intends to support Clinton if she runs for U.S. president in 2016.

“Tears welled up in my eyes when I told her what an influential woman she was, and then I was like, ‘Wait, I can’t cry. I want to stump for her when she starts her campaign!’” Moretz said.

Toronto vs. Vancouver
Toronto has been very good to Moretz. In addition to offering the young actress an opportunity to meet with a figure whom she clearly admires, the city has been a home away from home for the Atlanta, Ga. native over the past five years. Moretz has shot three films in and around Toronto: “Kick-Ass” (2010), “Kick-Ass 2” (2013), and “Carrie” (2013).

However, she shot her upcoming film “If I Stay” in Vancouver. When asked which city she prefers, Toronto was the clear winner.

“My favourite city in Canada is Toronto,” Moretz confessed. “The food is amazing here. You’ve got really good Italian -- Vivoli on College Street and Duff’s. Soooooooo good!”

The actress also had her share of nice things to say about Vancouer, however.

“Vancouver was great, though,” she said, realizing she may have disappointed her West Coast fans by picking Toronto. “They have a really large music scene. It’s very Seattle, it’s very Portland. It’s really beautiful. I mean the woods, the mountains, and the water, it’s very epic. I don't know, I tend to enjoy the East Coast more for the city vibe. It’s less provincial.”

It’s unclear how Moretz’s Vancouver fans will take the news that their city is not her favourite, but the up-and-coming actress is welcome in Toronto any time.

"If I Stay" is set for release on Aug. 22, 2014. Watch the trailer:
