Artist recreates 'Star Wars' and 'Indiana Jones' scenes with LEGO

If you enjoy movies like “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones,” and if you also love things like LEGO and action figures, then you might appreciate the fine work of Vesa Lehtimäki (who also goes by the screen name Avanaut). The Finnish photographer is, as many are, a big fan of the "Star Wars" and "Indiana Jones" series. Lehtimäki also happens to be a bit of a toy collector and one heck of a photographer to boot.

So what do you get when you put all those passions together? You get some absolutely striking movie-themed dioramas set in the fictional worlds of Luke Skywalker and Dr. Indiana Jones.

Using baking soda for snow, professional quality lighting, and a forced perspective technique that gives LEGO figures and vehicles a fantastic sense of scale and motion, Lehtimäki’s “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones” photo dioramas are a breathtaking sight. The photographer even “crosses the streams” so to speak, placing Indiana Jones in scenes with recognizable “Star Wars” characters and locations. It’s very cool work.

Is it too late to make "Star Wars: Episode VII" out of LEGO? One look at these dioramas could sell even the most hardened Hollywood executive on the idea of a "Lego Movie"-style "Star Wars" adventure!

Lehtimäki has many more movie-themed work on his Flickr stream, including dioramas based on "Blade Runner" and shots featuring larger “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones” action figures. It’s absolutely incredible how lifelike these toys can appear when photographed under the right conditions.
