Amazing ‘Avengers’ concept art

So, "The Avengers" just crossed the $1 billion mark at the box office, and the folks at Marvel are already talking about a sequel.

There was a time, however, when "The Avengers" was just an idea in someone's mind. The script and a cast are both important factors, but when it comes to creating a blockbuster like "The Avengers," a little help from some talented concept artists goes along way toward visualizing the finished film.

Artists Steve Jung and Nathan Schroeder, who both worked on "The Avengers," recently posted some of their amazing early conceptual work for the film. Based on descriptions from the script and storyboards by the filmmakers, artists like Jung and Schroeder are able to create illustrations that give everyone involved an idea of what they are working towards.

From the design of sets, costumes, and vehicles (like the S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier), to the staging of major set pieces (like Thor vs. Iron Man), good concept art helps inform every level of the production and establish the look and feel of a movie well before a single frame is shot.
