10 Reasons Why Four from ‘Divergent’ Is America’s New Fictional Boyfriend

Tune in to the live red carpet premiere for 'Divergent' Tuesday, Mar. 18 at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT!

Edward who? Peeta what? There's a new YA book-to-screen hunk taking up residence on the Avenue of Fine Fictional Boyfriends, and man is this one a keeper.

Hellooooo Four. (Or as he's also known by his full character name, Tobias Eaton -- played by British actor Theo James -- though we'll just stick to "Four.")

This "Divergent" hero has got it all, y'all — charisma, inner-strength, respect for the ladies, a pack of seriously chiseled abs, and so much more. We're definitely swooning over our newest fictional boyfriend because, yeah, there's a lot to love about the mysterious Mr. Four.

Let's review, shall we?

1. First of all, just check out that glorious smile.

2. He’s perfectly imperfect.

He might look it, but one of our favorite things about Four is that he is not 100 percent perfect. And he doesn't pretend to be, either. The man's got a bit of a hot temper at times, and he's certainly not free of fear or emotional baggage. Not to mention, he doesn't always try to spare anyone's feelings or sugar coat things, ahem, but this is all just part of a very awesome (and handsome) package.

3. Four is not a player.

Tris doesn't have to walk around Dauntless HQ and dodge whispered rumors about him and so-and-so or need to quibble with a gaggle of jealous exes. And she certainly doesn't have to worry about what (or who) he's out doing while she's stuck in the initiate dorms. He's just not that guy.

4. He has some hot ink.

Tattoos can be pretty sexy on anyone, but Four's really making all those faction symbols work for him. Yow!

Especially since he's got a good reason for having them all inked on his oh-so-muscular back there: "I don't want to be just one thing. I can't be. I want to be brave, and I want to be selfless, intelligent, and honest, and kind."

5. There's more to him than meets the eye.

Sure, he's drop dead gorgeous and all, but it's what's beneath the surface that makes him so incredible. For example, he ranked first in his initiate class but doesn't boast about it, and he was offered a leadership position but chose to turn it down for good reason. Oh, and he transferred in from Abnegation, too — how about that for a shocker? Needless to say, there are plenty of delicious layers of his personality to peel away at.

6. He can do the whole mind over matter thing.

The nickname Four comes from the number of fears he has, according to his little nightmare landscape. And one of the things he's most afraid of is extreme heights, but Four puts on his big boy pants and climbs right up that rickety ferris wheel with Tris (and across thin rails and such all the time).

"Becoming fearless isn't the point," he says. "That's impossible. It's learning how to control your fear, and how to be free from it."

7. He's surprisingly good with computers.

And geek is definitely chic, people.

8. No free rides.

Another big selling point for Four as an ideal fantasy boyfriend is the fact that he isn't going to just take it easy on anyone — especially his own girl. And she's all the more fierce and prepared as a result.

Better yet, he also won't be making any of her decisions for her — though he might have a little something to say about it, after the fact, when said choices are completely reckless and ill-advised.

9. He has a good head on those sculpted shoulders.

Despite growing up in a violent and broken home, Four has got a really good moral compass. In fact, he wants to make Dauntless a better place and quietly rejects the way things have become under the faction's current leadership. Nothing like a man with principles.

10. Theo James is pretty brave, too.

In an instance of life imitating art, actor Theo James imbibed a little Four-style dauntlessness himself when tackling the role. The 29-year-old Brit opted not to have a stunt double for the film's action sequences.
