Exclusive ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ Clip and Concept Art Beam In Digital Release

One of the summer's biggest hits is coming home a little early as "Star Trek Into Darkness" has been released on digital platforms today, three weeks before the film hits Blu-ray and DVD on September 10.

Get ready to beam aboard the Enterprise from the comfort of your own personal digital platforms with our exclusive clip below, which offers a behind-the-scenes look at the opening scene featuring Kirk (Chris Pine) and Bones (Karl Urban) running from the natives of the planet Nibiru. What's most remarkable about the clip is it showcases the practical effects utilized in bringing the location to life — not only was a set built in favor of a CGI landscape, the environment was actually outdoors as well.

"It's a classic 'Star Trek' set, it really is," says Urban, who relished opening the film with Kirk and Bones yapping at each other like "an old married couple." "If it weren't for the fact that it's actually outside, which is wonderful because it breathes a whole other life into it. It's always much better to have the elements there that you can actually physically react to as opposed to having to use your imagination."

We're also celebrating the digital release of "Star Trek Into Darkness" with three exclusive pieces of concept art. The illustrations offer unique looks at some key moments from the film, including Kirk entering the radioactive engine room of the Enterprise and the USS Vengeance crashing into San Francisco Harbor.

You'll notice that each piece of concept art has a code — you can use these to access the Defeat Khan website, where you'll be entered for your chance to win a trip to London to see "Star Trek Into Darkness" live orchestrated by Oscar-winning composer Michael Giacchino.
