Joaquin Phoenix Is Going to Be in That Mystery Spike Jonze/Charlie Kaufman Project

Remember when everybody assumed after the "I'm Still Here" debacle that Joaquin Phoenix's career was good and dead? Didn't happen, did it? Nope, all he did was return from that embarrassment to star in Paul Thomas Anderson's new movie, one of the most anticipated films in the world that doesn't have the words "Dark Knight" in the title. Well, Phoenix isn't done there: He's just signed up for another high-profile project.

Twitch "has learned" that Phoenix will be starring in the new film from director Spike Jonze and screenwriter Charlie Kaufman. Jonze and Kaufman have a pretty nice track record: Their earlier collaborations were "Being John Malkovich" and "Adaptation." Yes, clearly Hollywood doesn't want anything more to do with that loose cannon Phoenix.

This would be even more exciting if anybody knew what this new film was about. When news started leaking out about the project back in spring, Deadline reported that the movie was "a satire about how world leaders gather to figure out all the seismic events that will take place in the worlds, from oil prices to wars that will be waged." That's a frightening enough idea for a movie. The idea that Phoenix would play one of those world leaders? Utterly terrifying.
