‘Catching Fire’ Confession: Sam Claflin ‘Kinda Liked’ His Shaved Chest

Watch the live L.A. red carpet premiere of ‘Catching Fire’ on Monday November 18 at 9 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT right here on Yahoo Movies.

With a film as emotionally and physically intense as "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire," it's no secret that all of the actors involved put in a ton of work to make their beloved book characters jump off the page. For franchise newcomer Sam Claflin, his preparation for the role of handsome, chiseled District 4 Victor Finnick Odair required plenty of strength training, conditioning ... and a little manscaping.

"I shaved my chest,” Claflin told Yahoo Movies during a recent interview about the potentially painful procedures he endured during filming. "I shaved [and didn't wax] yeah, partly because I don't know why, they said it would be less painful."

Interestingly enough, when Claflin went through with the hair removal, he didn't perform the task solo; instead, he enlisted the help of his makeup artist.

"I remember being in the makeup artist's bathroom in her hotel room having it done and she continually kept telling everyone about it. I was like 'No no, that sounds so dodgy! You were shaving my chest in your hotel room bathroom? Let's just keep it on the DL.'"

Despite the potentially "dodgy" chest-hair removal, Claflin admitted he enjoyed the final results.

"I'm not going to lie — I kinda liked it," said Clafin. "I did actually quite like it and my wife [actress Laura Haddock] was very happy. She missed ... you know what? I'm not going to go into that."

Despite all the attention paid to his appearance for the role, Claflin is reluctant to admit to any "dreamboat" descriptors we attributed to him and his other two young male co-stars, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth.

"I don't think I'm even in the competition," Claflin said. "Liam and Josh, I mean woof."
