Wesley Snipes turns 50 in ‘Club Fed’

Action star and noted tax hater Wesley Snipes turns 50 years old on Tuesday. But we're guessing he won't be getting a very nice cake. Snipes, who became a huge star in the '90s with roles in "Blade," "White Men Can't Jump," and "Demolition Man" is perhaps best known these days for trying to avoid paying income tax.

Snipes was initially sentenced to McKeaon Federal Correctional Institution, a medium-security prison in northwest Pennsylvania. He is now at the adjacent prison camp, a minimum security "Club Fed," where he is known as inmate number 43355-018. According to E! Online, the camp houses around 290 white-collar inmates.

In 2008, Snipes was convicted of three misdemeanor counts of failing to file tax returns. He reported to prison on December 9, 2010.

While Snipes still has a little less than a year to go before his July 19, 2013 release, he is already planning a comeback. Earlier this year, he was visited by Oscar-nominated director Spike Lee. Lee took to Twitter to talk about the encounter.

"Yesterday I Went To McKean Federal Correctional Institute in West Hell,Pennsylvania To Spend 2 Great Hours With My Man Wesley Snipes," Lee wrote. "Mr.Snipes Is In Great Shape,Mentally,Physically& Spiritually. We Laughed& Joked For The Whole 2 Hour Visit. He Said When He Gets Out-It's On".

Snipes and Lee have worked together on several projects in the past. The two collaborated on "Jungle Fever" and "Mo' Better Blues." If you want to send Snipes a belated birthday card while he's a guest of the government, you can write to him in care of FPC McKean, P.O. Box 8000, Bradford, PA 16701.
