Weekend Picks: ‘The Lucky One,’ ‘Chimpanzee,’ & ‘Think Like a Man’

I realize I'm starting to sound like a broken record as "The Hunger Games" could easily place first in the weekend box office race its fifth weekend in a row.

One word comes to mind: Yowzers! (And yes, I am a nerd.)

"The Lucky One," starring Zac Efron and based on a Nicholas Sparks novel, appears to be the top contender to knock "Games" out of the top spot. But if efforts by another former Disney Channel star is any indicator—*cough* Miley Cyrus—we may not need hold our breath.

The Lucky One

Rated PG-13 for some sexuality and violence.

What's the Story?
Efron plays a U.S. veteran of the Iraq war who credits a photo with saving his life. He aims to meet the woman depicted in his found photo and strikes up an unlikely romance with her.

If you liked "The Notebook," the ultimate of Nicholas Sparks-inspired films, this is your thing.

Chimpanzee
Rated G.

What's the Story?
If the scribes at Lolcats described this film, they would simply type: MONKEEZ! This Disney documentary follows the life of baby chimp Oscar who is forced to go it alone when his family is confronted by a rival group in their species.

Who Will Dig It?
Families who care about nature and animals should be swinging into theaters to see this.

Think Like a Man


Rated PG-13 for sexual content, some crude humor, and brief drug use.

What's the Story?
Comedian Steve Harvey wrote a best-selling relationship self-help book that operates as the inspiration for this film. A truly ensemble cast, "Think Like a Man" illustrates how a group of men are shaken by the women in their life who have been empowered by Harvey's teachings.

Who Will Dig It?
If you read Harvey's book, you're going to this film.
