Opening wide this week are "Hit & Run," "Premium Rush," and "The Apparition." "The Expendables 2" made a strong enough showing last weekend to claim the box office crown, but do the geriatric brutes have enough brawn to fight off these three new releases?

What's the Story?
Writer and co-director Dax Shepard plays Charlie Bronson, a former get-away driver who ratted out his old bank robbing crew and now lives under Witness Protection with good girl, Annie, played by Shepard's real-life fiancée Kristen Bell. When Charlie's old crew, led by a dreadlocked Bradley Cooper, shows up for payback, Charlie and Annie go on a hijinks-filled, high-octane, cross-country car chase followed by Charlie's former criminal colleagues, a bumbling Witness Protection marshal (Tom Arnold), and the state police.
Who Will Dig It?
If you love fast cars, fisticuffs, and "Smokey and the Bandit" (1977), all wrapped up in a sweet and raunchy romantic comedy, then you'll be in the driver's seat with this R-rated car-chase comedy.

Dax Shepard served as the best man at Tom Arnold's wedding.

What's the Story?
Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays Wilee, an adrenaline junky, New York City bicycle messenger charged with delivering a premium rush package. When a corrupt cop, played by the ever maniacal Michael Shannon, violently tries to intercept the envelope, Wilee must fight to stay alive while desperately attempting to deliver the all-important goods.
Who Will Dig It?
Fans of complex thrillers and "The Dark Knight Rises" co-star JGL should enjoy this wild ride, as should those who bear a nostalgic hankering for more bike messenger movies like Kevin Bacon's "Quicksilver" (1986).
Fun Fact:
Gordon-Levitt received 31 stitches after riding his bike into a diplomat's car that ignored the "Do Not Cross" tape on set.

What's the Story?
"Twilight" star Ashley Greene is one half of a young couple who discovers their home is haunted by a terrifying presence, which was accidentally conjured up during a former tenant's college experiment gone awry. The more scared the couple gets, the more real the apparition becomes. In order to stave off their paranormal extermination, the couple turns to a supernatural consultant, played by Harry Potter's nemesis, Tom Felton.
Who Will Dig It?
If you've been starved for a good ole jump-out-of-your-seat horror flick in the vein of "Poltergeist" (1982) and "Paranormal Activity" (2007), then this is the fright fest for you.
Fun Fact:
The film is loosely based on the true story of eight Toronto researchers who attempted to create a ghost from scratch.

Limited Releases:
In limited release this week, Chris Sheffield plays a college bound high school graduate who doesn't have the credits, or the maturity, to cash in on a tennis scholarship in the coming-of-age tale "General Education"; two teens, raised as brothers, find glory on the soccer pitch and danger in the slums of Venezuela in "Hermano"; Marion Cotillard reunites with old friends who gather on their yearly vacation despite their former travel companion's recent hospitalization in the French film "Little White Lies,"; two undead friends become zombie vigilante's in film festival favorite "The Revenant"; comedian and playwright Mike Birbiglia brings his comedic commitment issues to the big screen in "Sleepwalk With Me"; NBA superstar Kevin Durant loses his shooting touch and an awkward 16-year-old kid magically finds it in "Thunderstruck"; we're offered an in depth look at the modern difficulties of running a hospital in the documentary "Waiting Room"; and 100 trainers have 100 days to train 100 wild mustangs in another documentary, "Wild Horse, Wild Ride."
