The actor who played hardened action hero Jason Bourne has switched gears to portray Liberace's lover in the 2013 HBO biopic about the legendary Las Vegas entertainer.
In an interview in the January/February issue of Playboy, 42-year-old Matt Damon, who plays Scott Thorson, the celebrated pianist's longtime partner, described making out with co-star Michael Douglas, saying, "Michael was a wonderful kisser."
The "We Bought a Zoo" star also admitted to doing "a lot" of nudity for the drama, adding, "I mean, it's tastefully done. ... But this movie's not going to be for everyone."
Damon's comments about some of the suggestive scenes in the drama are making waves on the Web.
The HBO movie, directed by Steven Soderbergh, features Douglas as Liberace and Damon as his much younger lover. Damon, a married father of three, said that beyond the racy moments, the movie explores "a real relationship -- a marriage -- long before there was gay marriage."
Portraying that love "wasn't the most natural thing in the world to do," Damon said.
Still, that didn't stop the A-lister from jumping in. Take this poolside scene he shot with his co-star. "Like, for one scene, I had to come out of a pool, go over to Michael, straddle him on a chaise lounge and start kissing him. And throughout the script, it's not like I kiss him just once. We drew it up like a football plan."
Damon said he drew some of the inspiration for his part from the late Heath Ledger, who won acclaim for his role in "Brokeback Mountain."
The star recalled that he asked Ledger how he did the scene where he and Jake Gyllenhaal begin "ferociously kissing." Ledger told him, "I needed to just go for it. If you can't do that, you're not making the movie."
Matt Damon will next be seen in "Promised Land," a drama he also cowrote with actor John Krasinski. It will be in select theaters on December 28.
