If the team behind the “Fast and the Furious” franchise have learned anything over the years, it’s that bigger is just about always better, and the upcoming sixth installment looks to be the most over-the-top entry in the series to date, judging from the first preview that aired during Super Bowl XLVII. Big explosions? Outrageous car chases? Awesome military hardware? Sexy women? World-class bad guys? And characters presumably coming back from the dead? You name it, “Fast & Furious 6” is going to have it.

Watch the Super Bowl spot for 'Fast & Furious 6':

"Fast & Furious 6" brings back the main characters in the series, Vin Diesel's Dominic Toretto and Paul Walker’s Brian O'Connor, as well as lawman Luke Hobbs (played by Dwayne Johnson, the artist formerly known as The Rock), who was chasing the car thieves in 2011's "Fast Five." However, there's a twist this time: a gang of extremely well organized bandits staged a raid on a military convoy, and Hobbs has turned to Dominic and Brian for help, offering them amnesty if they can bring in the villains.

Dominic and Brian quickly assemble the old gang, including Ludacris as Tej Parker, Tyrese Gibson as Roman Pearce, Sung Kang as Han, and Jordana Brewster as Mia, and they’re soon on the trail of some incredibly well-equipped outlaws – they have tanks, high explosives, and assault vehicles that look like something out of "The Road Warrior," while Hobbs and the gang fight back with helicopters and jumbo jets, with one shot promising a hot rod bursting out of an exploding cargo plane. Take that, logic and restraint!

And while the preview also suggests more of the usual rivalry among the crew, the end of the trailer reveals the after-the-credits gag at the end of "Fast Five" was no tease – Letty (Michelle Rodriguez), seemingly killed in 2009’s "Fast & Furious," is back and clearly has some scores to settle.

Justin Lin, who also directed "Fast Five," "Fast & Furious," and "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift," clearly knows what works for this franchise, and this first look at "Fast & Furious 6" confirms this movie will seriously push action fans’ buttons when it arrives in theaters on May 24.
