Emily VanCamp of ‘Revenge’ Tagged for ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’

As Marvel Studios continues its mission to conquer Hollywood for the fanboys, some interesting casting news broke Friday regarding the upcoming follow-up to 2011’s “Captain America: The First Avenger.”

According to Deadline.com, Emily VanCamp, best known as Emily Thorne on the hit TV series “Revenge,” will be playing Sharon Carter, the female lead in the comic-inspired adventure, which is said to pick up in Marvel multi-verse where “The Avengers” left off.

VanCamp’s character in “Captain Avenger: The Winter Solider” will be romancing Steve Rogers, the alter ego of Captain America; while Alison Brie, Felicity Jones, and Anna Kendrick were among the actresses said to be in talks for the role, Deadline.com’s Mike Fleming Jr. reports that VanCamp is to be confirmed to play Carter.

Before “Revenge,” VanCamp was a regular on “Brothers and Sisters” and “Everwood,” and appeared in the films “The Ring Two,” “Carriers,” and “Norman.” The latter movie earned VanCamp the Best Actress prize at the 2010 San Diego Film Festival.

While “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” isn’t expected to arrive in theaters until 2014, an impressive roster of talent has been attached to the project. Samuel L. Jackson will return as Nick Fury, Scarlett Johansson steps in a Black Widow, Colbie Smulders plays Maria Hill, Toby Jones will portray Arnim Zola, and Sebastian Stan will play Bucky Barnes, Captain America’s former friend who has been transformed into the villainous Winter Soldier. The sibling filmmaking team of Anthony & Joe Russo are slated to direct.
