The Daily Bugle Drops More Hints at 'Spider-Man' Villains to Come

He won't be appearing in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" (at least not physically), but J. Jonah Jameson is already making life more difficult for the wall-crawler.

A notoriously outspoken opponent of Spider-Man, the Daily Bugle editor-in-chief has the gloves off with a scathing editorial on TheDailyBugle.tumblr.com that accuses the superhero of being the cause of the recent crime wave in New York City rather than its potential cure.

Check out JJJ's misguided yet undeniably entertaining rabble-rousing below, which hints at some familiar characters we may be meeting in the "Spider-Man" sequel and beyond.

SPIDER-MAN: THE CHICKEN OR THE EGG?

An editorial from Daily Bugle publisher J. Jonah Jameson

Before Spider-Man appeared, had a Lizard creature run amok on our city streets? Before Spider-Man appeared, did our city know the presence of a gangster wearing a mask and calling himself "The Big Man"?

Before Spider-Man appeared, was there Herman Schultz, a bank robber using homemade weapons to create vibrational waves that could shatter three-foot thick steel bank vault doors?

Before Spider-Man appeared, criminals didn't feel the need to keep pace by joining forces and growing mobs at a record pace, like Aleksei Sytsevich's gang.

Before Spider-Man appeared, did we hear all of the rumors of Oscorp developing terrifying creations fit to stop creatures the likes of the wallcrawler?

The mystery and mystique that Spider-Man cultivates has led the criminal element to respond in kind, indulging in secret identities, colorful costumes and worst of all: catch phrases.

Where does this end? It is my prediction that in the coming weeks we will face an onslaught of villainous activity. Residents should remain calm and be prepared for the worst — power outages, mass destruction, possible chemical warfare...

Is Spider-Man responsible for the very creation of the enhanced criminals that have emerged across the city or is his existence the only hope to stop their increasingly destructive spree? Which came first, the chicken or the egg? The answer is: the Spider.

Jameson gets right into the foreshadowing with the mention of a masked gangster known as The Big Man. In the comics, this was Frederick Foswell, a reporter for the Daily Bugle who secretly moonlighted as a crime boss. Little does J.J. know that one of New York's rising criminal masterminds is on his own payroll... and, if the storyline stays true to the comics, will one day (SPOILER!) be his savior, too.

Jameson also mentions Herman Schultz, whom players of "Ultimate Spider-Man" will remember as the first and very easily defeated "boss" of the PS2/Xbox game: Shocker. Making his debut in "The Amazing Spider-Man" No. 46 (March 1967), Schultz was a so-so burglar created an electro-shock suit that took his criminal career to, well, shocking new levels.

Jameson also writes about Aleksei Sytsevich, a Russian gangster portrayed by Paul Giamtti in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" who eventually becomes the brutal Rhino. But what's most telling is his description of Oscorp "developing terrifying creations fit to stop creatures the likes of the wallcrawler," later referred to as "enhanced criminals." We've gotten glimpses of Doc Oc's mechanical arms and Vulture's wings along the walls of Oscorp in "ASM2" trailers, and J.J.'s rant offers even more of a set-up for the supervillain group, the Sinister Six.

The Daily Bugle will continue to post stories to Tumblr leading up to the "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" hits theaters on May 2.

Come back to Yahoo Movies on Thursday to see all the stars arrive for the live "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" red carpet premiere at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT.
