The Stars of ‘Noah’ on Which Animals They’d Leave Off the Ark and Russell Crowe’s ‘Koala’ Beard

Fittingly, the production of Darren Aronofsky's biblical epic "Noah" was a rough-and-tumble, rain-soaked affair. So naturally we had to ask the film's cast what the first thing they did was once they were able to wrap (and dry).

"[I] shaved that beard off," Russell Crowe told Yahoo Movies. "It was like having a koala growing out of your chin."

Co-star Ray Winstone, who plays the villainous Tubal-cain, took a more celebratory approach: "God, I think we had a drink."

"Noah" stars Crowe as the great gatherer of animals, and while the Aussie actor was excited by the prospect of working with a multi-species cast, he couldn't hide his disappointment that most of his furry friends in the film were created via CGI.

"One of the aspects of the movie I thought I'd be bringing an innate skill to is the animal husbandry thing," Crowe said. "I love cows, I love dogs, I love horses. I have a great relationship with pretty much all animals. Then I found out we were having no animals."

Of course, Crowe does not love all species.

We asked the "Noah" cast which creatures they'd leave off the ark if it were up to them, and Crowe recalled a recent episode in Rio, Brazil when he was "bitten 12 times in the head" by mosquitoes.

Logan Lerman, who plays Noah's second son Ham, agrees: "I really feel like we do not need mosquitoes, they're horrible insects," the "Percy Jackon" and "Perks of Being a Wallflower" star told us.

"For me, the animal I find the scariest is sharks," said Emma Watson ("Harry Potter"), who plays Noah's adopted daughter, Ila. "But they wouldn't have made it onto the Arc so I'm cool."
