Final 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' Trailer: Wolverine Gets Mutant All-Stars Together for Sentinel Smackdown

We've seen some of what's in store from the evil army of mutant-hunting robots, those Sentinels that Wolverine and the gang have to contend with in "X-Men: Days of Future Past."

We've had a good look at those futuristic evil Trask Industries creations — and have even wondered aloud over whether one of those mechanical marauders is going to kill Storm (Halle Berry) in the upcoming comic book movie.

But the latest and final "X-Men" trailer, which dropped on Tuesday night, offers the first good cinematic gander at the retro Sentinels of the '70s, when they were newly created by Bolivar Trask, played by Peter Dinklage of "Game of Thrones" fame.

Before they were oversized, fighting robot weapons, the Sentinels started out as artificial limbs in the late '60s, constructed with DNA, according to a handy online "X-Men" study guide posted by 20th Century Fox late last week. By the early '70s, Trask Industries got tapped by the Nixon administration to make the first line of Sentinels for U.S. defense.

They were the good guys. But then things changed. As Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) says in the new trailer, "In the beginning, the Sentinels were just targeting mutants. Then they began targeting everyone."

The new footage shows Trask arguing for — and getting approval from an alternate-history Richard Nixon — the exceedingly expensive "Sentinel Mark 1" program, which "raised the level of national security capabilities."

Like in the comic book, they're purple, they fly, and their eyes glow yellow (but we have yet to see whether their chests glow yellow, too, like the comic version). While their '70s design is still sleek and intimidating (unlike the period clothes that young Professor X wears), these early Sentinels evolved dramatically over time; their future selves are much more organic and creature-like.

There are plenty of other impressive sights in the new footage presented in this last trailer. We finally get to see the super-speedy mutant Quicksilver in action (and not eating a breakfast sandwich). Wolverine and Professor X use his wall-running abilities to help break Magneto (Michael Fassbender) out of his imprisonment underneath the Pentagon. There's more from "X-Men: First Class" stars (and real-life couple) Nicholas Hoult and Jennifer Lawrence as Beast and Mystique. And as a capper, Magneto is seen lifting an entire baseball stadium off the ground with his powers and dropping it in the path of the police.

We'll see where everything lands when "X-Men: Days of Future Past" opens nationwide on May 23.
