There’s a lot of good horror films coming out of and to Singapore.

Recently, “Afterimages”, directed by Singapore-based American Tony Kern, won best feature film at the Eerie Horror Film Festival in Pennsylania, and Best FX at Thriller! Chiller! Film Festival in Michigan.

Kern is very encouraged by how the Singapore media has endorsed the movie with local film critics weighing in favorably on the movie.

Tay Yek Keak of inSing.com has declared it to be “ghoulishly appetizing” and John Lui of The Straits Times has called it “a milestone of achievement”. Whang Yee-ling of 8 Days observed that “Kern’s meta-movie is intended to confidently display his savvy and, certainly, it is a clever and very proficient genre exercise”. Marcus Goh of Yahoo Singapore Movies said “it is the local film you must catch this year”.

Meanwhile, amid the Halloween spirit this season, the Media Development Authority (MDA) cites three Singapore productions with the potential to scare your socks off.

Grace is a four-part horror mini-series that tells the story about a man whose unfaithfulness delivers dark consequences to those closest to him.  It was produced by HBO Asia and Singapore production company Infocus Asia, and premiered on HBO Asia's in October.

Bring Back the Dead is about a grieving mother – played by Singapore actress Jesseca Liu – who resorted to supernatural forces via a Malaysian medium to bring back the soul of her dead son. The film is expected to open in cinemas in January 2015.

The Faith of Anna Waters”, directed by Singaporean director Kelvin Tong, stars American actress Elizabeth Rice (Mad Men, Gossip Girl) and tells a story about a young crime reporter who arrived in Singapore to investigate the murder of her sister. This film is expected to be released next year.
