Did You Know Kristen Bell Can Sing? Neither Did Her 'Frozen' Co-Stars

Kristen Bell has been holding out on us!

First, we have to make a confession. After leaving the theater from Disney's latest animated movie, the Oscar-nominated musical "Frozen," we did a little search to find out who did all that glorious singing for Kristen Bell's character, Anna. Turns out, Kristen Bell sang for Kristen Bell. Who knew?!

Apparently, we weren't the only ones in the dark about her background in music, which includes a nearly finished degree in musical theater from the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University and a gig on Broadway in "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer."

"I didn't know how great a singer she was," her co-star, Tony winner Idina Menzel, told Yahoo Movies. "I quickly found out and need to constantly tell her because she doesn't tell anybody else! She's always playing it down."

"It was definitely a wonderful surprise hearing her voice [during auditions], not knowing that she had been classically trained," director Jennifer Lee said. "Also, she had such a warm, sweet voice. She was everything that we could've hoped for for Anna. I don't think there could be any other Anna but Kristen Bell."

The new mom and newlywed, 33, admitted that music was actually what led her to become an actress and that doing "Frozen" made everything feel like it had come full circle.

"Music has been a very big part of my life for a long, long time. I grew up studying opera and sang in solo and ensemble competitions instead of playing a sport," she explained. "I studied music in college and it's kind of what brought me to acting. I realized I liked music so much and when you could be a storyteller while you were singing, that was the best of both worlds. So to be able to bring it back to a project like this is really exciting."

But Bell admits she wasn't all confidence when it came to recording with Menzel, who provides the voice of Anna's magical sister, Elsa..

"Singing in a booth with Idina Menzel? Totally different ballgame. It's like being in the ring with Mike Tyson. It's like trying to be nicer than Gandhi," she joked. "It really is nerve-racking but she really is the opposite of what you would think. She has this booming voice and huge stage presence, and she's so soft-spoken and demure and kind in real life that kind of dissipated all my fears."

Okay, so now that it's official — Kristen Bell is an awesome singer — what other hidden talents is she keeping from us?

"I'm a pretty good cook!" she declared, raving about her sweet potato gnocchi and squash soup.

Needless to say, we're willing to beg for a dinner invitation.
