The 18 Greatest Laughs in Movies

Laughter, as they say, is the best medicine.

That's probably why a remix of Jeff Goldblum's beloved cackle from 1993's "Jurassic Park" has been making the internet feel great this week.

Goldblum's memorable outburst is one our favorite movie laughs ever, but there are plenty other iconic crack-ups that would be worthy of a remix all their own. Here are our picks for the 18 best movie laughs ever.

18. Robert De Niro in "Cape Fear"
We'll forgive him for being "that guy" at the theater here because the howling bit Max Cady pulls is something special.

17. Jim Carrey in "Ace Ventura"
Ace's cartoonish snicker was highly imitable, to say the least.

16. Michael Sheen in "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2"
Aro could have easily been portrayed as cold, aged, and stiff, but when Michael Sheen brought the character to life in the "Twilight Saga" films, he opted for a eerie affectation that was never more ironic than the moment he burst out with that delirious little giggle mid-climax.

15. Julia Roberts in "Pretty Woman"
She may have been a stunning vision in red, but that doesn't mean she's not prone to a good laugh attack.

14. Charlton Heston in "Planet of the Apes"
Haw haw haw haw. Even if it's not supposed to be funny, we're sorry but George Taylor's horrifying snickering is still hilarious.

13. Tom Hanks in "The Money Pit"
Poor Walter Fielding. When the man's house basically started self-imploding in one of the more ridiculous home accident sequences in movie history, the guy has no choice but to just howl at his absurd level of misfortune – maniacally, of course.

12. Jack Nicholson in "The Shining"
Despite the familiar adage, all work and no play does not make Jack a dull boy. Quite the contrary, in fact, as his evil little roar demonstrates quite well.

11. Crispin Glover in "Back to the Future"
Adorkable though it may have been, even George McFly's own family went stiff every time the guy started in with his goofball chortling. The sound sure fit the character like a glove, though -- or, in his case, like a custom-made pocket protector.

10. Wallace Shawn in "The Princess Bride"
The little guy sure did get himself worked up when he thought he'd gotten the better of our hero with his little class on dialectics. Too bad it was The Man in Black who got the last laugh during this bout of wits.

9. Linda Blair in "The Exorcist"
If the devil himself does have a laugh, Linda Blair did a pretty solid job of convincing us she was channeling it. Shudder.

8. Seth Rogen in Anything
It doesn't quite matter which movie you choose from his catalogue of funnies, you'll get the same consistently escalating guffaw in every single one.

7. Heath Ledger in "The Dark Knight"
The Joker just wanted to know why his audience was "so serious," right? The late, great Heath Ledger's chilling chuckles are a big reason why his Joker stood up to what Jack Nicholson laid down nearly three decades prior.

6. Jack Nicholson in "Batman"
Spoiler alert: The Joker always gets the last laugh. Even if it's by way of a creepy, mechanized voice box that survived the fall when he did not.

5. Chewbacca in "Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back"
We may understand anything Chewy says, but laughter is an intergalactic language. Laugh it up, fuzzball!

4. Eddie Murphy in "Beverly Hills Cop"
Axel Foley's laughter was about as convivial as his language was foul. Here was a man who positively loved his job -- especially when he got to pull one over on somebody. That's when the good, hearty chuckling really set in.

3. The Nerds of "Revenge of the Nerds"
Nerds laughing hysterically. And then making one another laugh with how silly they're laughing. And then making the audience laugh with how comically awkward their laughter is. Yep, that just about sums it up.

2. Mike Myers in "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery"
Possibly one of the most widely emulated movie moments of the '90s came when Dr. Evil busted out his infamous "Muahahaha"-ing session in "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery." Nearly two decades later, lifting a pinky to the edge of one's lips still means just one thing.

1. Margaret Hamilton in "The Wizard of Oz"
The Wicked Witch of the West has the most iconic movie laugh of all time, hands down. That green meanie's cackle has stricken fear into the hearts of generations, and it will likely continue on for many more to come.
