Demi Lovato Takes a Break from the Neon Lights Tour to Talk Skincare, Nick Jonas, and Pre-Concert Rituals

While watching Demi Lovato perform at the New Jersey stop of her Neon Lights tour, it was hard not to marvel at all her stunning accomplishments. Looking purely at the numbers, Demi is a three-time Teen Vogue cover star at 21-years-old, she's released four albums with three certified platinum singles, this is the third tour of her career, and she will perform 44 times in over 9 countries. Phew!

"This tour is so special to me," Demi told us post-show. "It's my first headlining arena tour, so I've had the opportunity to share my ideas on the production and creative concepts."

It helps, of course, that Demi is in very good (and very handsome) company. "I've been working alongside my good friend, Nick Jonas, who's the creative and musical director of the tour," Demi explains. Naturally, when Nick joined her onstage for a few songs, the Lovatics' screams were nothing short of deafening.

Spending months performing all over the country is obviously a lot of hard work. "It's tough to find downtime because I'm constantly on the go," the singer admits. But there does seem to be a method to the madness. "I love to get a workout in right before each show to get my adrenaline rushing," she explains. "And afterwards, I eat healthy and drink lots of tea to help me feel better."

Hydrating and eating well probably contribute a lot to the singer's glowing complexion, but she's also got her skin regimen on lock. "I use Renée Rouleau face products," she says. "The Energizing Cleansing Masque helps keep my skin and pores clean in-between facial visits." She also relies on the Beauty Award-winning BHA Clarifying Serum: "It's a miracle product. I'll wake up the next morning and have literally no pores."

Great skin may be her constant, but Demi's found herself making a couple of adjustments to her beauty routine since Neon Lights kicked off in February. "Nail art is my favorite!" she says, "I love it so much that I even collaborated on a nail line last year." Unfortunately, the embellishments, studs, and intricate designs she became known for during her stint as a judge on The X Factor weren't exactly practical for tour life. "Right now, I'm rocking gel nails since they last so much longer."

And it's no secret that her hair underwent a dramatic transformation. Just two weeks ago, she debuted a brand-new, half-shaven head. The style lent her rocker-chic tour ensembles a super-edgy vibe. For good measure, she's pairing it with fuchsia strands and a pout to match. "Lately, I love a hot pink lip with a natural eye," she says.

But what onstage persona would be complete without a signature scent? "The perfume I'm into right now is Miss Dior," Demi says. With exotic notes like Egyptian Jasmine, Italian Mandarin, and Indonesian Patchouli, it seems the perfect fit for such a diversely talented performer.

Talking makeup and perfume is good and fine, but for Demi, the best part of her Neon Lights tour has little to do with the glamour.

"It's been a privilege to meet all of my amazing fans who have been with me through it all," she says. On top of regular meet-and-greets backstage, Demi is also on her third year as an Acuvue Celebrity Mentor. Through a special 1-Day Contest, fans can win a chance to spend a day with Demi and get some of her star-studded advice. "It's wonderful to see young people working hard to fulfill their dreams," she says. "Knowing that I had a small part in inspiring them to do so is gratifying."

The Neon Lights Tour ends on May 17.
