Anyone who has ever opened a comic book, anyone who enjoys watching gorgeous stars running around in spandex and capes, and anyone who wants to start the summer off with a humongous, mind-blowing action spectacle will walk out completely satisfied.

THREE GOOD REASONS

  • 1Earth's mightiest heroes -- Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, The Hulk, Nick Fury, Black Widow, and Hawkeye -- assemble to save the world. What other reasons do you need?

  • 2It's got more big-name acting talent than most of the other summer movies put together, including four Oscar nominees and one winner.

  • 3It's written and directed by "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" mastermind Joss Whedon, who is an expert at dysfunctional teams, witty dialogue, and killer action scenes.

There was a lot of speculation amongst comic book fans as to what was the exact threat that the Avengers would be battling for the fate of the world. It turns out Loki (the villain from "Thor") has recruited an army from an alien race called the Chitauri. First introduced in Marvel Comics' "The Ultimates" #8 in 2002, the Chitauri are shape-shifting extraterrestrials who have been trying to take over the Earth in secret for decades. And it will take the combined strength of all the Avengers to stop them.
